It saddens me because this board and football in general have been a lot of fun over the years. (My wife, OTOH, is happy not to have to schedule around games on fall weekends ;) )

Cliff has agreed to take over as admin and he's already brought on some new staff to help him out. I hope you'll give them the same support you've given me over the years.

Thank you to everyone here. As Mike said when he retired, it’s not just the people that run this site that make it great, but the members here also.
Sorry to hear that you are retiring, Geoff. This will be my first year in 17 without the NFL Sunday Ticket, but I still plan on being a football fan and a purple fan.

Anyway, I wish you all the best, and hope to see you again in cyberspace soon.

Dan

I've been reading your posts online since the NG days and always appreciated your football insights, Geoff. Glad you were willing to take over after Mike left -- you did a great job! Thanks for helping to make Viking football fun even when they have been really bad (or disappointing). Always enjoyed playing Pick 4 with all you guys. I've felt burned out on on Viking football and Pro football in general too over the years and so I can relate. Hope you enjoy Sunday afternoons in a different way (certainly without the responsibility) and your life this fall is beautiful! Best wishes always... Lars

Perhaps a silly question, but WHO is going to moderate now???

I am leaving VMB, for good. I have enjoyed talking about the Vikings and learning more about the team I love, for eight years.
Most of what I post anymore, on this site gets ignored. The times it does not get ignored; draws some snarky and sarcastic response,
like this.

jackal wrote:Goodell is a true political hack... He would back or promote anything, for popularity sake.

 yeah shame on him for hopping on that pesky anti domestic violence popularity bandwagon. What's the world coming to?
And should I just go ahead and pencil you in under the "for domestic violence" category while we're at it?
But no, seriously, Goodell doesn't do anything for popularity, he does it for money. I believe his popularity is pretty low
with most NFL fans these days. Not Bud Selig low, but getting there.

To the older members like Dan and many others, I wish you all the best.

Farewell

I probably only have a few years of NFL enthusiasm left in me, depending on how the Vikings do. I'd like to see a return to the SB within 3 years. If it looks promising I might stick around a couple more after that, and if it doesn't I hope I have the sense to get out. But I don't see myself giving a damn about it 10-15 years from now. Like boxing before it (which I used to watch), it is a guilty pleasure.

An Ndamakong Suh stomp bothers me a lot less than egregious gloating, but I am oldschool in that way. Sometimes guys will fight or be overly physical, its the nature of the beast, but to me gloating and showboating is a really poor demonstration of character and it totally juvenile and unmanly.

Every year I battle to remain interested in the game, and every year I care a little less because of these reasons, but it remains a fun pastime.
I wish this site had a 'like' button. But I cant just turn off the football love. In fact, every year I like it more. It helps to just have 1 fantasy team, instead of 3 or 4.

Wow man. That first part was meant to be funny, not get you all upset. That's why I led off with the rofl. Well I apologize for upsetting you, it wasn't my intention. I usually enjoy the things you post and when I saw you call Goodell a political hack for coming out against domestic violence, I didn't think you were serious.

Thank you.. It was a lot more than that, to be honest. I don't feel connected to many people here, anymore
I often feel like my posts are ignored, or worse here. A lot of the people that were regulars; are gone now,
or rarely drop in. Being a Vikings fan isn't an easy thing. 98 and 2009 were the worst for me, personally. I
guess after almost a decade it happens, especially in places like this. Who knows, maybe I am just warn down,
from all the highs and lows.

I think having a guilty conscience about enjoying people get permanent brain damage is a big part of it for me. That's part of the "guilty pleasure" in the article, if you read it.

Not sure if money can compensate for brain damage. Players are mostly quite young, and like most young people probably think awful health problems can't happen to them. I'd wager many of them won't admit the risk to themselves, since the NFL has suppressed it for so many years. Anyway whether they want to do it or not is irrelevant, its whether I want to continue watching them do it forever that's at issue. And I figure a few more years and the answer will become no, for me.

these guys know what they are signing up for. nobody is forcing them to play football. and for anyone who has ever played hockey the risk is nearly just as close. take favre for example, he came back for $16 million dollars his final year when he was 41 years old and had made how many millions already? that was his choice. i'm sorry, but construction workers risk head injuries maybe some of these guys getting paid some of these salaries should try working in the real world. personally, i don't feel sorry for any of them. racers risk getting killed, boxers also risk the potential of death each time they enter the ring it goes with the territory.

Thanks for everything glg! You are a Viking's pioneer!

Congrats to Cliff and Co. on the promotions.

Cliff, if you ever want more help, I'd love to be part of the new regime!
