Re: Bridgewater starts when?
I think waiting a year is the best thing for this kid. He can learn the offense and work on little things such as his footwork and accuracy. Gain some muscle, get up to around 220 and Teddy can be a solid QB.

Yes but Russell Wilson is about 3 inches shorter. I think Wilson has the bulkier frame. Bridgewater with his 6'2 frame should get up to around 220 at least.King James wrote:

The coaches know exactly what Teddy should weigh and how he can get there. Its been talked about for months. Teddy does not strike me as someone that's lazy. He bulks up and hits the weight room on Monday lol.

Re: Bridgewater starts when?
It seems like most people are answering the question as if it was "When do you want Bridgewater to start?". The question as asked was when we thought he would start. I think the Vikes want to stash him for a year (unless he's just ridiculously good in preseason), but injuries to Cassel will lead to him starting late in the season - at first, the Vikes will play Ponder, but by week 13, they'll want to get Teddy a start or two to prep for a more focused preparation in the next offseason.

Haha. I think that is a little optimistic given all the circumstances. The biggest key for Minnesota will be not only adjusting to a new scheme, but adjusting to playing outside. We haven't win very many times in the last decade or so outside. That will be interesting to me.VikingPaul73 wrote: I agree on the first part.......but I disagree that they will ever be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.
10-6, wild card. They will win 3 straight road games in the NFC playoffs. Super Bowl champs.
AD will rush for 2500 yards!

At this point, I'm just glad he's on the team. When he actually starts games isn't on the forefront of my mind because I feel this staff will play him when he's ready and only they can really judge that, so it's outta my hands.

Cassel did pretty well in the snow last year. Has Teddy ever even seen snow?HardcoreVikesFan wrote:

Now that I think about it. I don't see why Bridgewater can't start week 1. Bridgewater, Cassel, and Ponder are all learning the new playbook for the first time. Yes Cassel and Ponder are a couple of weeks of ahead of Teddy but Teddy is a fast learner. I bet by the end of the beginning of preseason, he will know more of the playbook than the other QBs.

I'm thinking he starts either game 1 of 2016, or he takes the reins at some point in 2015 if maybe Matt Cassel were to get hurt. I think Ponder's going to be the primary backup in 2014 just because he has a head start on knowing the offense, and is more familiar with our receivers.

Re: Bridgewater starts when?
Easy answer would be it depends on how he takes to the offense and looks running it. If he looks like the real deal in camp and preseason games, he could start in 2014. I think that is true with any player on the team. Zimm isn't married to any player at any position, he wants to field his 22 best which should not be strictly on past performance. I say most likely scenario is that Matt starts the season, but that is only based on the way most teams do things lately. But most guys get a shot in the rookie year.

Re: Bridgewater starts when?
I am really conflicted on this. Part of me really wants Bridgewater to sit and develop. I want him to be in the best possible quarterback situation - sitting behind Cassel for a year would allow him to learn, grow stronger, and get coached up by Scott Turner.
Conversely, the guy is extremely talented. He is the best quarterback of this draft class and is the most ready to play now. If he clearly demonstrates the ability to play and beats out Cassel, then I have no problems with letting him start week one.

Re: Bridgewater starts when?
Start him day 1 if he's the BEST QB we have by the end of camp. (and I'm sure he will be)
It'd be different if we were the browns this year or the texans when they drafted Carr and the dude got sacked an NFL record SEVENTY SIX TIMES in one year! That's almost 5 sacks a game!
Instead this offense has always been solid QB play away from being one of the best in the league ever since we drafted Peterson.
He's the most pro ready QB and we have an offense set up to accommodate him so it's a good match. A good Preseason showing should put him on the field.

I agree that he should start. There are no great expectations for this year anyway. Let the kid show us his gamemondry wrote:Start him day 1 if he's the BEST QB we have by the end of camp. (and I'm sure he will be)
