According to reports, Hodges played in the middle last year at PSU. Henderson has played in the middle in relief as well. I think the Vikings expect all their linebackers, both starters and backups, to be able to play all three positions.

Hopefully they pencil Hodges in the middle. Erin had a chance in passing downs...and lost it to Brinkley of all people.

We are so weak at this position now, Urlacher couldn't be any worse than Cole or the newbee LB we drafted. Urlacher knows the system and has a ton of experience. If the price is right sign him up!!
Of course he will say that, he's on the street with no takers!

I would rather roll with Karlos Dansby.

I just hope the Vikes address this issue before the season starts. I'd be fine with either Urlacher or Dansby, but I guess I lean towards Urlacher based on his former glory and the hope that his having "something to prove" could return him to it, if only for a year or two.

I heard today that Henderson is beefing up and is practically begging to be the MLB.

Well, they've just drafted a couple of LBs, so they now have plenty of candidates on the roster to choose from. Don't rule out Audie Cole just yet - all he does is catch touchdown passes.

Now that Dansby is gone do we go after Urlacher or do we gut it out with Cole, Henderson and the draft picks and try to fill the MLB void?

Or do we change the narrative and go after Urlacher who has real experience at the position? If the price is right, I'd take Urlacher!!

I wish we would just get Urlacher. Henderson was mediocre at best and to move him to middle is hilarious. I'm guessing since we did okay on defense with Brinkley we can do any much worse. But it would be nice to have a true MLB. I rather Cole or Mauti start than Henderson.

Remember Erin lost the nickel job to Brinkley last year.

Wow and now he might get a crack at the full time position?

While Frazier says it's an open comp between about 3 guys?

What a mess.

It is a mess, and for some reason I don't think Henderson finish the season as the starting MLB. He is very blessed right now because his only competition is an up and coming Audie Cole who probably still has a lot to do to win over with the coaches. And then there's Michael Mauti, a great player who I think is better than Cole and Henderson but has injury concerns.

Hmmm...

Brian Urlacher - LB - Free Agent

A source tells Chicago Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed that free agent Brian Urlacher is "leaning toward" the Vikings.

Sneed is not a beat reporter and has no history of breaking news. But he does say his source is "close to Urlacher" and the Vikings still make the most sense. Despite a gaping hole at middle linebacker, they didn't use any of their nine draft picks on the position.

I'm pretty sure it has already been reported that the Vikings would happily take Urlacher when his asking price came (way) down. I wouldn't be surprised if Urlacher had 2-3 contracts sitting on his kitchen table right now, and he is beginning to realize that if he is going to play this year, it is going to be for much less than he initially imagined. Now it is just a matter of which option best suits him.

Urlacher isn't going to just any team. I know he wants to go to a playoff team. We are pretty much a playoff equipped team so he better drop that price down if he wants a chance to play here. Besides guys like Michael Mauti and Audie Cole could learn from a guy like Urlacher.

Getting a Urlacher would also make me personally happy because I have a bestfriend who is a Bears fan and having Urlacher on the Vikings would make him go crazy...lol

Brian Urlacher - LB - Free Agent

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Vikings aren't planning to sign free agent Brian Urlacher, "barring unforeseen circumstances."

The Vikings have a fragile situation at middle linebacker with former special teamer/weak side 'backer Erin Henderson currently penciled in, but Urlacher would only be an upgrade in terms of intangibles. What Urlacher put on tape last season is overriding his Hall-of-Fame résumé.
