Re: Webb moved to wideout
The question I have is his hands. We’ve heard rumors of “stone hands” before. If they can overcome that issue, what would really interest me is Webb returning kicks. His legs would make him dynamite in that role, assuming he can maintain ball security.
I agree with the take of him being the 199th pick. If they get anything out of him, it is a success.

He seems like an awkward fit as a kick returner to me. He's nimble when avoiding pass rushers and running outside against LBs after coverage is already downfield but that's pretty different than what a kick returner faces. Does he have the vision, the acceleration, the short area quickness and sustained speed to excel in that role? It's about so much more than good hands and sustained speed.mansquatch wrote:The question I have is his hands. We’ve heard rumors of “stone hands” before. It would be an interesting experiment. At his size, he'd be a load to bring down on returns.

I actually think he'd probably make an excellent safety. You know, if you hopped into your Delorean and had him actually play the position in high school and/or college.Mothman wrote: He seems like an awkward fit as a kick returner to me. Great Scott! What CAN'T he do?!

LOL! He's a QB/WR/DE/KR/S/LB/TE and long snapper all rolled into one! You should see him long snap the ball!dead_poet wrote:I actually think he'd probably make an excellent safety. You know, if you hopped into your Delorean and had him actually play the position in high school and/or college.

He can even shoot lasers from his eyes, which is pretty cool.

Re: Webb moved to wideout
As long as he is released after he tries being a WR. Some guys just dont cut it in the NFL, no matter how good they look on paper. IMO, Webb has been here too long. As has MBT, if the Vikes wouldnt even put him in over Webb in the playoff game last year. We need to get a young, un-athletic, QB in this years draft.
Re: Webb moved to wideout
I'm going to defend MBT a bit. And the coaching staff. There's no way you start a third stringer with no NFL experience into that situation (when you have a second-string guy with experience that has shown he can win in spot duty). You just don't. Do you realize the fervor such a move would've caused? How many reps did MBT even get as the third stringer throughout the season. That would've been SUCH an unprecedented and irresponsible move.PurpleKoolaid wrote:As has MBT, if the Vikes wouldnt even put him in over Webb in the playoff game last year. I'm still mildly intrigued with MBT. At least, I haven't seen him face plant yet.

I'm fine with replacing MBT with another QB but why on earth do they need an un-athletic QB?PurpleKoolaid wrote:As long as he is released after he tries being a WR. Lol, I think its just his own way of saying you guys need to get a young pocket passer type guy.Mothman wrote: I'm fine with replacing MBT with another QB but why on earth do they need an un-athletic QB?
I think dude may be forgetting though that Aaron Rodgers and Steve Young are (or in Steve Young's case, was.) both great in the pocket field generals, while at the same time exceptional at using there athleticism to escape the pocket and take off/buy more time to pass. (Which is, IMO the scariest kind of QB to try and defend.)

If he was 20 lbs heavier he'd probably make a great LB....but it is what it is.

Re: Webb moved to wideout
I was serious about the KR thing. Everyone fear’s Webb’s Legs. On a KR/PR he has to make just a few guys miss and then the wheels take over. He has the gas to do that. To me the hands are the big question.
I’m just trying to figure out a way to put that athleticism and size to use. WR is the natural place, but I think he just doesn’t have the reps to make that happen. Seems like returning kicks would be a much easier transition, IMO.

To me, the ability to make people miss and his vision are even bigger questions but I knew you were serious and I wasn't mocking your suggestion, just having fun withmansquatch wrote:I was serious about the KR thing. dead_poet's comment.
Even if he can return kicks and punts, he'd have to be really good at it to justify a roster spot based on return ability alone.I’m just trying to figure out a way to put that athleticism and size to use. It was partially a joke. I watched ESPN last night. There was a special on Brady. They showed him during his combine. Was kinda funny, except hes now a SB king and first vote HoF QB.Mothman wrote: I'm fine with replacing MBT with another QB but why on earth do they need an un-athletic QB?

I just don't see his scrambling during broken plays translating to the speed and elusiveness to be a solid returner.
