Not sure I get the hate about this signing.

His production has went down each of the last 3 years. Every season he's been in the league he's had an elite quarterback in a passing offense. He's almost 30. And he's now the seventh-highest paid wide receiver in the league. (To be fair new deals usually are: "The $9.5 million annual average makes Jennings the NFL's seventh-highest paid wide receiver, behind Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Mike Wallace, Dwayne Bowe, Percy Harvin, and Vincent Jackson.")

To be honest I don't think there's really any "hate". Just...not sure what the word would be. But I definitely don't hate the signing.

I can see him being like Winfield for the offense.

A future cap casualty.
Considering our cornerback play since Winfield got here, let's hope he contributes more to the young guys!

This leaves the option of grabbing Allen from Cal and the best LB or DL on the board for the other #1 or the #2 pick.

Jennings will never break 1,000 yards again, and he'll be cut in 2-3 years.

So Jennings made the classic decision. He got his money but his career is all down hill from here.

The Packers will continue to fight for Super Bowls and Jennings will disappear like he's wearing a cloaking device.

So you're saying it wont help Ponder to have a WR that is in the position he is supposed to be when the ball is released?

Has anyone posted an over/under line in career receptions with the Vikings? I'm going to go with 120. I hope he can stay healthy and give the Vikings two more-or-less complete seasons. Then they can jettison him if he has nothing left at 32.

Correct. Because Ponder is not a strong-armed, on-time passer, and he can't throw receivers open. A Brandon Marshall type would do great things for Ponder. A Jennings type is wasted on him. Jennings is not a physical match-up problem, and that's what Ponder needed.

Well if that article says it, it must be true. It isn't even worth watching the Vikings this season. We'll all just take a year off.

I think his production waning is twofold. He definitely had injury issues the past two years. The Packers also have glut of talent at the position. I would wager, right now, that next season will be his best season in 3 years, solely because he will be the main option for the Vikes. All bets arevoff if he gets broken.

And "hate" is just the current figure of speech...don't be hatin on hate...brah.


Our cornerback play has been ugly...but when Winfield was out of the lineup the whole backfield was awful. When he was in there they were better all around. He was a glue guy in that sense. Made the whole unit better. That guy is now Harrison Smith. He should be here long time.

As far as helping the younger guys...lets hope they do a better job spotting talent in general. Many of the DBs brought in by the TOA aren't even in the league any more. I'm not pinning that on Antione.

I guess you guys are right. It was a waste signing and we're better off with what we had.

The Vikings are going to need a monster season from a rookie WR for any receiving corps built around Greg Jennings, Jerome Simpson, and Jarius Wright (!!) to quality among their top 5 in team history.

Time will tell. Sometimes I think people forget that first or second year QBs don't always play like first or second year QBs for their entire careers. Ponder has talent and he's shown improvement. If they protect him and draft a quality receiver that can take some pressure off Jennings so he isn't facing constant double teams, he could thrive with Ponder.

Freeman's entitled to his opinion but it's nothing more than a kneejerk reaction. It's meaningless. he has no more clue regarding what's to come than anybody else.
