Another part of the problem is the inherit mindset of not messing with a QB's psyche.

Extreme examples: Look at the Jets or Seahawks. Look at the Redskins and the Vikings. 49rs and the Rams.

I think the Vikes should have used the mindset of drafting a QB in the first and/or second round in 2 out of 3 drafts. We did that with Ponder, but we really can't do that with the next draft as it's supposed to be QB week.

webb is not a nfl qb, he should be cut. sage would have certainly been more effective than webb. i also believe orton, moore, yates, henne, hasselbeck and matt flynn are all backups that could have at least given us a chance.

How many games did Sage Rosenfels win for the Vikings? Zero.

Sage's career passer rating is 81.0

Here are all of Sage Rosenfels starts in the NFL... a grand total of 12... none against the Packers at Lambeau.

Apart from Henne doing decent on a horrible team, none of those examples gives their team a chance or is considered a starter.

And resorting to the cliche of a QB should be cut, ignores the reality and context of the Vikings situation and Webb's.

They are two completely different QB's - so we have apple/orange comparison.

Here are Sage's stats - he had ONE viable year as a backup, and he played those 9 games because of injury and was in his 6th season in the league and 2nd with Houston.

What was more of a joke that game. Webb or the cheese read option they tried to use? Personally I'd argue the latter because the read offense is garbage if you don't have a QB who can actually throw, case and point Denver last year. The Redskins, Seahawks, and Panthers can all use different variations because they have QBs who can keep drives alive. Webb at this stage isn't that, he can't keep a drive alive solely on his arm. When Webb has had success it was scrambling and extending the play not running the stupid read offense.

I don't blame Webb for playing terribly, he was forced into an offense that has done very few, if any read option plays the whole year. He also went against a team that was willing to sell out against the run.

The point is simply that we don't know whether Sage would have done better, the same, or worse. Webb clearly sucked on Saturday night, and I'm not excusing that... but anyone can have a really bad game, especially playing the Packers at Lambeau in freezing weather.

Sage is no major prize and he is kind of famous for being a bonehead. Houston fans remember his worst game, if you want to compare it to Webb's worst game, which is so fresh in our memories... In October of 2008, the Texans led the Colts by 17 pts in the middle of the 4th quarter... Two Rosenfels fumbles (being a reckless idiot), followed by a dumb interception, and the Colts win 31-27. This was the famous "Rosencopter" game.

Yes. That's true.

But you seem to be omitting one tiny little detail.

In the Rosencopter game, Sage did lead his team to a 27-10 lead with 5 minutes to play. Which means he was quarterback for 27 points.

Joe Webb could have played four games Saturday night and not scored 27 points.

I would be willing to wager on that. Especially if the guy had the same real game time like Check Down Charlie has had.

LMAO.

Joe Webb showed everyone exactly what he was on Saturday: A #### QB. Webb has never, and will never, be a good QB. These Webb apologists can shut up now and I could not be happier.

And neither was Check Down Charlie. Feel free to book mark this thread and bring it up when he is no longer the starter for the Vikes in the 2014 season. He gets a pass next year because of one game. Wow, he is impressive.

You're right. He's a terrible quarterback. So is Ponder. Who looked just as bad last time he played at Lambeau. Worst quarterbacks in the entire league. :wallbang:

I tend to agree with that, but with the caveat that this was only supposed to be a "rebuilding year". Had anyone known we even had a chance to sniff the playoffs, I imagine the decision would've been different. Maybe.

I assume because this was supposed to be a rebuilding year, they wanted Ponder to develop without having to look over his shoulder, or like you said, having to worry about everyone calling for the backup if he had a stretch of bad games. However, Ponder played so bad in many games that we were calling for the backup anyway, and we knew full well what Webb had to offer. It was that bad. And we entered the playoff discussion after we easily beat the niners in week 3 so nobody can say it snuck up on us.

I don't think Frazier and company were even thinking playoffs by game 12 when we were 6-5 and had a chance to win at Lambeau. Frazier's mind was still in rebuild mode. Ponder was having his usual stinker, but Frazier still refused to bench him in favor of Webb. Frazier even said after the game "it didn't even dawn on me to go to Webb". Really??? How bad does your QB have to be before it even dawns on you that you have this other guy on the bench?

And as bad as Webb played, it was still statistically better than at least 4 Ponder games. In hindsight, this is probably why Webb SHOULD have come in in some of those games, to relieve Ponder. He would have gotten some live game action and if he stunk, we could have made backup plans long before Saturday.
