Wiederer cuts Nick Reed. Pelissero keeps him. Wiederer cuts Sherels. Pelissero keeps him. A lot of different opinions. I'll be most interested in how the #3 RB, LB and QB situation plays out.

I'm interested in most of it, especially RB, LB and WR. The QB and TE positions are intriguing too.

The Vikes might take a very close look at LBs released this weekend. I think one of the writers (Wiederer?) mentioned that and it makes sense to me.

I'd keep Asiata at RB. I think he's earned it.

Also, keep a watchful eye on the Packers' receiver cuts. They have the most depth at the position as anybody in the league. Don't be surprised if we try and sign Diondre Borel or Tori Gurley. The former the Vikings attempted to pry from the Packers' practice squad last November before jerk Ted Thompson upped his practice squad salary in order to keep him. He goes 6'4/232 and has some athleticism and reportedly some red zone prowess.

Good point.

I think the Vikings will be looking at WRs and LBs in particular among this weekends releases. There will be some talent out there and the Vikes will have an excellent opportunity to claim some of it off the waiver wire.

Bryan Kehl - LB - Redskins

The Redskins will release ILB Bryan Kehl if they cannot trade him Friday.

It's a surprise as Kehl had a standout preseason and was expected to stick as the eighth or ninth linebacker. CBS' Jason La Canfora is already reporting that "several" teams are interested in him. He suggests the Saints as a possible trading partner.

Houston Texans

On August 31, 2012, the Houston Texans signed Webb to a 2 year deal worth 1.4 million.

I like Asiata but what has he done that makes him a giant leap better than his competition?

I thought Jordan Todman made a strong case for himself in the last game.

He's been healthy and able to get on the field and is averaging 5.7 YPC (16 carries, 91 yards) and has a receiving TD.

We can make that 5.8 ypc and 23 carries after last night's game. It's that average and Asiata's versatility that appeal to me. Of course, Todman's breakaway speed could be a huge asset too. I don't think Asiata is a giant leap better than his competition but he consistently distinguished himself this preseason. It's going to be a tough call for the coaching staff.

Hopefully, if one of them doesn't make the cut he'll clear waivers and end up on the PS.

If you can spend 1 roster spot for both a backup FB(assuming you want a backup FB) and RB, it's better than spending 2 spots for people that may not even play much.

I don't know how many remember last year, but Asiata was mentioned a few times by writers as a surprise of camp and might make the team, before suffering a hip injury. They even moved him to the PS for a bit after cutting him even though he was still injured. I'd think the vikings will be interested in putting whichever guy out of Asiata/Todman they cut on the PS this year.

Tori Gurley - WR - Packers

Packers waived WR Tori Gurley.

Teams in need of wideout help should have their ears perked up. Gurley was a darling of the practice squad last season and the offseason program this year. The 6'4/232 South Carolina product was simply buried in the Packers' deep receiving corps.
