The managing partner for a California-based company that is trying to lure an NFL franchise back to Los Angeles said the Vikings do not top the list of teams they will target at this point, according to the Associated Press.

John Semcken of Majestic Realty Co. told the AP on Tuesday the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills are the first teams it will try to relocate. Those teams are among at least seven franchises the company is considering for a new stadium just east of Los Angeles.

Yep, That's almost exactly what I had said when these latest "stadium/vikings move?" threads started early in the season. But I also placed the Rams in there as well.

Plus there is just NO WAY that Goodell is going to sign off and break up one of the most popular and historic Division/rivalries,

So the only issue is just getting this dang stadium built.

Just got back from a friend's house (Cowboys fan), who showed me pictures of when he went to their new stadium, and man that thing is awesome! Not to mention their cheerleaders! (why are our cheerleaders always blahzay looking?)

We really need to get a new stadium (something like Dallas' or Arizona's would be great)!

KFAN just signed new two-year contract, very short, ends after 2011 season. The team's stated policy is no long-term contracts beyond 2011. This does not mean the team is gearing to move out, but it does mean they will be perfectly positioned with no entanglements to move on in 2012 if they so choose. The Wilf's are incredibly savvy. They stand to make $1B if they stay this course. They will either talk Minnesota into a new stadium or make a killing when they head out. Despite what is said about the Jaguars and Bills being more likely, the Vikings are the team that are quietly positioning themselves to be in position to take the lucrative best offer. The best answer is a Super Bowl win this season catapulting a new stadium into construction backed by the state legislature. Sadly, my belief is a Super Bowl win is the only chance this has of happening, all polls show the public is not behind this and legislators listen to public majorities not minorities, no matter how vocal. Go Vikes!

^Actually majority of people support a stadium solution...whether or not it involves public money is another story. People are looking for creative ways to solve the problem.

I don't disagree. My understanding was that the other, new stadium thread was about pipe dreams and creative ways to solve the problem without any stadium politics, i.e. all positive, and that this thread was about realities and could include the stadium politics without of course devolving into diatribes on political theories, political parties, or politicians. Go Vikes!

A couple questions before I add to this
1. what is the state sales tax rate and is currently a tax funding the metrodome?
2. What percentage of the stadium is taken by season ticket holders?

I hope Minnesota gets a new stadium soon. I've seen some drawings the last few years of a potential stadium and they've looked sweet.

First, the University of Minnesota is a public entity in the first place ... as such it is entitled to public funding.

Second, the University saved itself a fortune by moving into the miserable dome for 28 years before building a new stadium on campus. Granted, it probably lost some revenue as well by having a sub-par football program because it wasn't on campus (which hurt recruiting, attendance, etc), but net it was an economic winner for the University, the state of Minnesota, and the Minnesota taxpayer.

Third, the Gopher football program is one of the most storied in college football history (just that most of that history happened before our time). With 6 national championships, Minnesota ranks 13th of all Division I schools, and has more national championships than all of the following traditional college powerhouses: Texas (4), Nebraska (5), Miami (5), Georgia (5), Cal (5), Florida (3), LSU (3), Penn State (2), Florida State (2), and UCLA (1).

The Gophers not only had a right to build a new stadium with public funding, but they deserved it too.

Just saw some great writing from the "Stadium Journey Development Blog"

When talking about fans...

Minnesotans have a reputation for being stoic and reserved. However, Vikings fans are among the most passionate fans in the NFL. Of course, what goes on inside the dome during Vikings stays inside the dome. Inside the dome, one sees a multitude of adults were Viking helmets with blond wig braid extensions while wearing jerseys with the name of Favre, Peterson or Allen.

When the crowd needs to bring the noise to help the defense, the fans can rival most airport runways and they are usually good for creating at least one illegal procedure penalty for the opponents a game. While there is good natured one-liners and barbs exchanged with fans who are wearing the wrong color uniforms (especially green and gold), the fans are good at ensuring that nothing crosses the line.

Really good stuff and spot-on and the reasons why we should love the Dome but more than anything be proud that we are Vikings fans.

someone had asked about license plates or some other sort of thing. I love that idea. I'd pay $100 per year for 5 years or something, plus the tabs, for that if it would bring a stadium to MN.


As fas as design, how cool would it be if they designed the outside of it to look like a huge Viking ship? The inner part of the ship would be the seating bowl. Wouldn't that be cool (albeit expensive)?
