There are never many options available when it comes to QBs. Speilman needed to sign Cousins when he became available because we had nothing at the position. Since Cousins is a good QB other teams were involved which drove the price up. Our team at that point appeared to be a QB away so Speilman made the move. I give him credit for that. 2018 Cousins first year was a tough season for us starting with Griff having problems. He was our best D player. Our leader. Rhodes also went into the tank and he was a dam good player. So #### happens. The most POed I ever became at Speilman was letting Jones slide by during the draft. IMO this will cost us big time. When a QB is there and they have 1st round talent make the pick. The position is too valuable.
The only other team involved with driving up the price was the worst run team in the league. No other team wanted to offer what Rick did.
2018 was indeed a rough year for Cousins. Top 5 RB, top 5 WR duo, and a top 3 scoring defense.
I mean, he had Rhodes out there in a secondary that gave up a league low 15 TDs, 3rd fewest yards and the 4th best passer rating against.
How could any QB ever overcome those kind of obstacles?
Denver bailed out. I'm sure there were others they didn't even report it. Cousins is out of here soon and if we do the right thing this is it for him. I'm sure no team will be looking. Or maybe one. Once the Eagles shredded Rhodes he was never the same. His last few seasons here were not very good regardless of some number you post. Found this which I already knew.
Back in 2017 with the Minnesota Vikings, Xavier Rhodes was arguably the best cornerback in the NFL. Rhodes consistently shut down the league’s top receivers and it resulted in him earning a First-Team All-Pro selection.
Unfortunately, Rhodes saw his performance trend in the wrong direction during his next two seasons with the Vikings and the team ultimately decided to let him go earlier this year.
Rhodes fell apart and sucked after 2017.
The Minnesota Vikings Everson Griffen was one of 16 players to finish last season with double-digit sacks, hits, and hurries in 2017.
2018 he was crap. Bad year and time for him.
Bottom line the D went backwards in 2018. They never recovered after being diced like a tomato in the champ game by a backup QB. You need to play some D to have a chance. I'm sure at some point in history a team made the Super Bowl with a junk defense and perhaps the Phins did it with HOFer Marino putting points up at will.
2018 our FG kicker couldn't make a FG against the Pack after a great comeback 22 points in 4th quarter. He was later cut.
Many things happened in 2018 that certainly didn't help us.
This year every player needs to play at their best because we need 14 wins to have a chance at the division title. That's a tall order. IMO we will lose 2 division games so we can only have one lose outside the division. Plus health will be key as always.
We open up at Cincy and IMO I would open the O up and try to strike early and get the lead which will take the crowd out and put their O into one dimensional form.
But Kubiak will run his Ground Chuck knock off Kube-Steak offense and pound Cook into the ground. He'll get 150+ yards and we will sneak a 24-17 win out but will allow the Bengals to stay on our heels as we pound the time off the clock. Sounds like early 70s football. One mistake will blow that approach up.
