What's your initial feeling on the Vikings signing Freeman?

Forget all about initial feelings about signing Freeman. The Vikings have nothing to lose this season, so start Freeman, see what you have, make plans for next year. Absolutely nothing to lose.
The Vikings only problems are not on offense, obviously, but that's incidental. They need to figure things out on both sides of the ball or next year will be another disaster.

Yep... so much for Cassel being the savior, Freeman should see the field next week.Eli wrote:Forget all about initial feelings about signing Freeman. The Vikings have nothing to lose this season, so start Freeman, see what you have, make plans for next year. Absolutely nothing to lose.

When Cassel posted a 123.4 rating last week, I stated I had doubts he would be able to sustain the performance. (and we still nearly went to OT with 140 yards rushing and a QB who delivered the 123.4 rating). Honestly, I think Cassel is better than Ponder, but that is like saying death by lethal injection is better than death by firing squad. The end result is still a bummer. In preseason Cassel had a game where he looked worse than Ponder, which was why I was concerned "which Cassel" (the better one (in London) or the worse one) would show up this week. In either case, both are too inconsistent to be a 'real' quarterback. I doubt Freeman is going to be any significant upgrade from Ponder/Cassel but I'm OK "rolling the dice" just to get to where we know we need to start over at QB (or maybe Freeman works out, but I'm not counting on it).mondry wrote: Yep... so much for Cassel being the savior, Freeman should see the field next week.
I've told people a million times not to exaggerate!

This seems like a good thread for this:
Ben Goessling @GoesslingESPN
Ponder said #Vikings told him the QB situation was up to whoever was on the field. They want somebody to grab the job.
Ben Goessling @GoesslingESPN
Would guess Freeman plays soon, but from what Ponder said, sounds like job isn't promised to anyone yet. Name of the game is competition.
Ben Goessling @GoesslingESPN
Agreed, but he'll need to lock job down. RT @Minnesota_Pride: Freemans contract says he'll be starting sooner than later...
Re: What's your initial feeling on the Vikings signing Freem
No doubt freeman starts next week, hell even the announcers for the game were saying how simple the playbook is, it should take him a week to be 100% confident on it
Re: What's your initial feeling on the Vikings signing Freem
I couldn't agree more. I was ecstatic when we finally got to watch someone other than Ponder, even if it was just Cassel, but yeah I never thought Cassel was going to be the long term solution. I just wanted that quick fix of someone other than Ponder, anyone. And now that that's outa the way, it's back to reality. I just didn't think Cassel would have his Ponder like game so soon, and now that he has, nobody will complain when they go with Freeman next week. Cassel will probably kick a bag of kittens tonight for blowing his chance. I'm sure Freeman will have his Ponder like games too, but I'm guessing (hoping?) it won't be as often as Ponder or Cassel.Just Me wrote:When Cassel posted a 123.4 rating last week, I stated I had doubts he would be able to sustain the performance. Well after today I'm really worried about Freeman now, not because of anything on him, but I think this offense is just destined to be average at best. Musgrave's play card is literally like 20 plays and there's just no creativity. Honestly it's not even imaginative enough to be called vanilla, I'd say this is more like "water" flavored ice cream but then I guess it'd just be Ice. The more I think about that 28.8 per game with Ponder the more I think that was a miracle, kind of like our 10-6 season it seems now.
No idea how bad it'd get without Peterson on this team.

Aside from Kramer and Culpepper, the only quarterbacks that have succeeded in this organization are one that was great already (Tarkenton) and hired guns like Moon, Cunningham, Favre, etc. The Vikings have never trained a great quarterback. In fact, any QB prospect that wants to attain his highest level had better get the heck out of Minnesota and go somewhere else, like Brad Johnson and Rich Gannon.

This is the sad truth. I was really hoping the Wilf's would change this, with their willingness to spend money. But they are actually worse then previous owners. We may just have to clean house, and start over with fixing the D first.JEC334 wrote:Aside from Kramer and Culpepper, the only quarterbacks that have succeeded in this organization are one that was great already (Tarkenton) and hired guns like Moon, Cunningham, Favre, etc. The Vikings have never trained a great quarterback. The Wilfs' are great owners when it comes to business. Since we finally got a good GM in Spielman, we've been on the right track. He did mess up on Ponder, but he's made a ton of good moves.PurpleKoolaid wrote: This is the sad truth. I was really hoping the Wilf's would change this, with their willingness to spend money. Start over? As far as coaching and our secondary goes, I agree. We should have paid Winfield as well.

What frustrates me the most is that we are wasting AD's prime years. With Freeman as our QB, hopefully him and AD can make a great match for years to come.
