Cordarrelle Patterson doesn't need to be an instant polished pro. With Jennings (route running) and Rudolph (big intermediate threat), what he provides is stupid (positively worded) athleticism. Our team is going to be built around using Peterson and out planning the opposition on offense. Sometimes you need raw athleticism to bust the opponents' schemes.

Honestly, he already looks promising to me, but I have unabashedly always held him as the best talent in the draft.

Either way, he's already better than this guy...

I agree he's more promising than Troy, but that's not exactly a very high standard.

The Vikes really believe in this guy to move up like they did. Let's hope they get this one right! He's got big shoes to fill wearing that #84!

I was mostly referring to the first sentence there about him not returning kicks, specifically when he is a starter and a legit WR. I was hoping that would happen sooner rather than later. I'd rather have him focusing on becoming a better receiver then and get away from the special teams stuff. I'm hoping someone else will take over the returning responsibilities then. But as long as he's lower on the depth chart, of course he should return kicks if he's the best option.

Anyway, I don't see much correlation between returning kicks and that hurting his ability to learn and develop as a receiver. Being a kick returner is pure instincts and athleticism (check and check) and doesn't involve too much mental capacity. And the way practices are usually broken up, CP won't be missing time learning how to become a better receiver simply because he's practicing KR's. Most of the time when teams work on special teams, the WR's are jacking around or just playing catch. It isn't until individual drills that CP and others will actually get work in...Most of it needs to be on his own anyway (before and/or after practices).

I love PA calling games but on his show the other day he said "Patterson looked like ROY out there in game 1". Didn't he have like 4 catches for 50 yards?

Something like that. Plus some good returns. I think he's just extrapolating his potential because of how explosive CP looked in that game. Relative to his size there really should be high expectations for Patterson for this year and beyond.

Jenkins was not a rookie when he came to the Vikings. He followed our OC from Atlanta who had basically lost his playing time
do to Julio Jones and several other draft picks.

I know some people here don't really care for him but we got decent return on him as a FA

Comparisons based on jersey numbers is irrelevant and silly. I don't remember too many comparing Ponder to Cunningham. I heard some grumblings of T-Jack and Randall. Maybe because they were both black.

CP and Moss don't have the same skillset. Both explosive players, but not nearly the same.

Right. I was mostly joking. I don't expect to ever have another Randy Moss. I freakin' wish, but no. But, he is a guy who the Vikings obviously really believe in and expect big things from. He wears #84; Randy Moss is who he grew up idolizing; he got drafted by the Minnesota Vikings, etc. It's going to be something that people have in the back of their minds, but I doubt anyone expects him to honestly replicate much more than the jersey. #84 or not, people expect a lot from him. I don't think people ever expected a whole lot of Jenkins. Could be wrong, though. But, that's the difference.

True, but the comparisons are already there. It's being talked about. And it probably will be for quite some time--logical or not. You might want to get used to it.

He wouldn't hurt....but if given the choice of having Moss 98 or the 98 O-line for Ponder, I'd take the line. Cuninngham had quite a pocket to throw from that year.
