Vikings QB Kellen Mond test positive for COVID; three QBs including Kirk Cousins expected to miss practice

You think Cousins blows and is the only reason why we suck right now. How many pro GMs were chasing him when he was a FA. They were all throwing big money at him.

I don't think Cousins blows and I don't think he is the reason we sucked last year (we won't suck this year). I think he is an average QB who isn't good enough, which is the same opinion as the person who wanted to move on from him at the cost of him, 3 1sts and Anthony Barr. Deep down you know he isn't good enough or you don't propose that trade.

There were only 2 GMs who threw money at Cousins. The NY Jets GM who was one of the worst GMs in that franchises history (which is saying a lot), and a GM who thought giving up 1sts for Christian Ponder and Sam Bradford was a good idea. Every other GM felt the asking price was way too high and every other GM was right.

So the average QB throws 35 TDs. Whatever. Cousins is out of here soon. I would deal him before we get nothing. Not because he sucks but he has value. Unfortunately Speilman has us in a spot that we have nothing else on the roster. But when he does hit the market again teams will be calling. The NFL has a tremendous shortage at QB. By then I'm sure the Saints will realize they have nothing. They have a gadget player and a turnover machine. But an overall decent roster. They will go after Cousins. Denver will be back in the mix. They think Teddy is the magic bullet. They might be right. They're the pros. They will find out soon enough how wrong they are. Teddy was another Speilman pick. Still playing.

He is just average, with some clear limitations and quirks that madden the fan base AND the head coach.
If he was making back up money , no one would mind him. Unfortunately, brainiac Spielman is paying Cousins like he has 3 Super Bowl rings.....hence, the frustration.

He put himself in the position that he had to double down. We are still in that position years later. Zimmer's won 2 playoff games. Keenum and Cousins got them. Last year for us was a waste. We lost too many players on defense to play good football. Basically a throw away season. Many of us were hoping for the 1st pick after that 1-5 start so we could get the top QB who appears to be a super star but that slipped away. The only way to get a QB that can play on the cheap is through the draft. You need to pick a guy and get them in the lineup quickly so they need great talent. The 49ers did it right. They pulled the trigger and moved up to get a top guy. They still have a QB but the kid can watch and learn from a pro. Once Jimmy goes down again the kid can step in. Perfect way to get the kid in there. Less pressure. That's smart management. The Pats will do the same thing because sooner or later Cam will play like crap or he will get hurt running and they can get their pick in there. Looks like the first two picks will be thrown in there with nothing. Tough spot for them. But you have to give the fans something to watch for buying a ticket. Nice gesture on the teams side. This years it's all or nothing for us which means playoffs or Zim will be kicked to the curb and Rick given a corner office to do some type of side work for Zigy's brother.

I'm not taking a position on whether its a good move or a bad move in my above post, just making a prediction that the Vikings are going to blow things up after this season. It's not like I am a diehard believer in Mond...he hasn't looked great so far. The point is, the Vikings are in a good position to shed a bunch of salary and a bunch of years after 2021. They have clearly loaded up, and if they can't win it all this year (and I don't think they will), its rebuild time. Yes, that includes dumping Cousins, and ideally getting something valuable back in return.
