Spielman probably thinks he can plug anyone e back there to return kicks or be a gunner on punts. Even at $5 mill per year, it is worth it if it improves the special teams into one of the best in the league. I am not happy CP is gone. Also don't forget Charles Johnson is gone too.
I do not understand the approach to this off-season. Create tons of cap space and then have it just sit there.

Patterson wasn't just a good returner, he was also a hell of a gunner.
I felt he was finally starting to put it together. I think the Raiders got a very good football player even if he's not (and may never be) a completely polished WR.

I'm done with Spielman. How do you go from being talked about as Super Bowl Favorites to just letting all your players walk. Patterson wasn't the best receiver we ever had, but at least he was something, and he was lethal on Returns. I just don't understand the logic behind all this. I'm pissed man I really thought we had a good chance to make a run in the playoffs but with all these crappy moves I see another 8-8 year. I hope I'm wrong but god have we done some stupid stuff this off season. Let Captain go and then we are trying to replace him with a 5'8 slot corner aka Josh Robinson version 2?
First of all, a lot of guys that walked were non-starters or bad starters. Except Munnerlyn and CP. They were really the only impact players we let walk. And I have no clue why you're referring to Roby Coleman as JR version 2?? He's actually been a pretty solid nickel corner and you mention 5'8 which also has nothing to do with anything because Munnerlyn was 5'9.

Dont forget too guys, we still have Wright at WR. Who essentially is a better "receiver" than CP is. Plus Treadwell in waiting. This move really impacts the ST but I also heard a little while back that if he goes back to the Vikings he wants us to commit to him playing more WR. Which is tough for us to do given Treadwell sitting there.

CP could have been worth bringing back, Munnerlyn could have been worth bringing back, Terrance Newman? Justin Trattou, Matt Asiata, Rhett Ellison...Do any of these guys seem like core players? I wouldn't mind keeping any of them, but I also don't mine letting them go. It doesn't appear the Vikings were too interested in any of them. Maybe that's because of all the young guys they need to re-sign in the next two years, the offensive line they need to rebuild.

Agreed. Everyone is getting so bent out of shape because we let guys like Matt Kalil, Rhett Ellison, Audie Cole, etc. go. Who cares?? CP and Cap were worth bringing back but were they really WORTH it? Cap signed a pretty hefty deal and was given a shot to play the outside in Carolina which he always wanted. We werent giving him that opportunity. CP wanted WR money and wanted more snaps at WR. I dont fault Spielman at all for letting these guys walk. However, I am getting a little annoyed that we arent getting stuff done a little quicker and signing some more guys. Granted the guys we let go were depth pieces so I'm expecting us to fill those spots. We havent yet. We're looking hard, but havent yet. I want Robey Coleman badly. Wouldnt mind Webb if Newman walks. Like to get Datone Jones too.
I wouldnt mind holding onto Newman. I'm sure we are interested but it also depends on if he's retiring or not. He might be since we are going after corners heavier right now.

Rapoport saying Lacy has agreed terms with the Seahawks...can't say I'm fussed about missing out.
Also only team to show any interest in AP now has a RB
Edit: 1 year $5.55m with $3m fully guaranteed

I don't see AP commanding much more than that (if that much).
Oh boy is he in for a surprise.

Latavius Murray visiting today (edit: reported by Adam Schefter)...actually a decent option I think. Solid runner/workhorse and also a good pass blocker. I'd be happy with him as one of the three, McKinnon as an option and then one of our higher draft picks for the third.

It's call depth. All those guys could be had cheaply (except Ellison) and they create excellent depth.

He is a volume guy nothing more. He is the definition of 3 yards and a cloud of dust. We don't have the WRs or QB to get him to 1000 yards.
