Guys like Rogers are rare. Very rare. Sure, I know you can point to examples like him. There's ALWAYS Brady. But usually a guy's draft stock falls for a reason. And I think there are many questions about Mr. Football. I didn't say he WILL be a bust. I said he COULD be. I also said he could be a star. We just don't know.
A lot of guys that fell in the draft yet became big stars often had character questions. Like Sapp and Moss. There are a LOT of questions about Manziel's GAME. AND his character. He scares me more than anybody on the board. I'd much rather take a defensive stud at #8 and maybe Jimmy G is there at #40. His stock seems to be rising and that doesn't seem quite as risky.
Of course I could be wrong. That's why drafting a QB is such a gamble.
You know, why DID Rogers fall so far?? I don't even remember now. There were no questions about his ability were there?
I hear you, and I wasn't trying to sound like as much of a #### as I feel I came off as in hindsight.

But yea, Rodgers falling was very much surprising, I think there were some questions about his athleticism, and whether he would be another "Tedford" QB. What get overshadowed is that Mike McCarthy was the Niners OC during that draft, wow. Talk about productive mistakes.

McCarron may not last that long based on talent, much less injury. I will agree that Manziel's style of play lends itself to more hits. Tom Brady is as statuesque as they come and that didn't keep him from tearing his ACL. I'm just saying that injuries are unpredictable. It conceivable that Manziel's career could be just as long as Favre (who some have compared him to).
But Tom Brady is still playing so what's your point. I'm saying that Manziel style of play will end his career. That's just my prediction. Manziel is the type of guy to keep playing despite being really banged up. It's going to come back to haunt him in the NFL level
He's shown he can be just as dangerous from the pocket.
He dangerous from the pocket because he's a dual threat. You don't know if he's going to run or pass. Keep him contained and you will slow down his offense.
You're going to fault him for passing it to his best receiver? Got it.
This is why I hate when people jump into my conversations that wasn't intended for them to begin with. The guy called AJ "captain staredown." I countered his argument by saying that Mike Evans is the main WR Manziel stares at majority of the time. I did not fault him for throwing to his number one WR. But don't go acting like Manziel doesn't stare down WRs.
For some perspective: Evans had 1,394 receiving yards in 2013. Deducting them from Manziel's 4,114 season yards still leaves him with 2,720 passing yards, 343 (or approx. one game) fewer than McCarron. Deducting Evans' 12 receiving TDs still gives Manziel 25 TDs on the season, only three fewer than McCarron. Of course, Manziel was forced to throw a ton because their defense was awful, compared to McCarron, who had one of the best defenses in college football. But some fun stats. It will be interesting to watch their careers. Personally, I think Manziel has a higher floor and ceiling (granted, he's a higher risk as well).
Just face the fact that McCarron is better. Stop making excuses for Johnny "overrated." Bama had a great defense but that does not change how effective they were on offense, especially in the passing game.

I'll throw out a name that I don't think has been mentioned yet. Brett Smith out of Wyoming. Has a bit of a Manziel type style to his game, would be an intriguing late round prospect.

In all seriousness, I don't think AJ would be a bad draft choice. But if manziel is there they are going to take him, period. You cannot afford to pass up on the potential, there is absolutely no sure pick in the draft. Every single player has bust potential. You can scream AJ from the heavens but it wont stop the vikings from drafting Manziel.
The scenario I think that will most likely happen is drafting D in the first, and probably taking either Garropollo in the second or mettenberger in the third or 4 round. Mettenberger I think would be the mostly pick due to him fitting Norvs Offense.

If the Vikes knew any better, they would pass on Manziel. He's going to be a bust, mark my words. If we happen to get Manziel, I guarantee we will be looking for another QB in the next 3 years.

So, we're basically done with QB. I can't see anything happening other than Cassel being #1, we draft a QB, and Ponder stays in the roster. QB position is basically set?
Considering the defensive mindedness of Zimmer my guess is we go defense with our first pick, and then get a QB with a second rounder, or a Slick Rick trade back into the late first.

I suspect you're right. Unless they have Watkins graded high and he somehow slips. Or Clowney, but both are very unlikely to be available at 8. My guess is one of the LBs or we trade back.

@RapSheet: #Louisville QB Teddy Bridgewater is meeting privately with #Vikings staff members as we speak. His Pro Day is tomorrow, live on @nflnetwork

He is getting noticed. If Zimmer were inclined to draft a secon QB combined with a Ponder trade, this guy would be it.

This is more or less how I'd grade the QB's as of today:
Tier 1 (I would take at #8)
Bortles
Bridgewater
Tier 2 (I would take in early Round 2)
Carr
Tier 3
Mettenberger
Murray
Garoppollo
Tier 4 (guys worth a flier)
Brett Smith
Connor Shaw
Undecided about Manziel, I go back and forth between 1 & 2. If more than one are available, I put them in order of preference.

Did you forget AJ McCracken, or whatever his name is?
What do you consider a "flier"? A 4th rounder or a 7th rounder?

I guess we're not allowed to press for explanations when someone makes ridiculous claims.
I wrote some good stuff on McCarron too. Oh well.
