Agreed. Not sure about Joe Webb doing the kick returning, but I'd much rather have Patterson focusing on becoming a great WR than worrying about special teams. Chances are he'll get used in the return game though--at least until he develops into a legit WR. More than anything, I just want the kid to stay healthy and make plays.

I did see Joe Webb do a nice route on NFL network today. About a ten yard run out and stop and then turn around for a catch. Webb then slipped
past the defender for a few yards. I have always liked Webb as a player. I hope he fills the void left from Jennings departure.

The big thing I think we as fans have to remember is that no matter what we hear, this kid plays WR, and WR typically takes a season or 2 to really develop in the NFL. My expectation for this season is that we might see some electric stuff in flashes, but for the most part the bulk of the passing game is going to be fed to GJ,KR,JS,JW, and JC. Nothing against CP, it is just the reality of the position he plays. If we see more than that, then it is likely a very positive sign of things to come.

Patterson seems extremely upbeat in all his interviews and excited all the time. I'm trying to keep expectations down, but I'm hoping to be surprised

OC Bill Musgrave noted that first-round WR Cordarrelle Patterson has been on point with his assignments.

The freakishly talented yet raw Patterson appears to be developing even faster than expected. Through two preseason games, he's recorded six catches for 73 yards despite playing just 52 snaps. "The quarterbacks want to know that guys are going to be dependable, be at the right depth, come out at the right angle and he was that way. ... And quarterbacks are starting to trust him," Musgrave said.

Excellent to hear. I'm really, really hoping this guy develops into something special. I think if he manages to stay healthy he just might.

A lot of what I hear about CP, was said about PH. And I still like PH, and loved it when he was with the Vikes. I think CP may be the pick of the draft (and Floyd is right up there too).

My take on CP is that it is still going to take time. He looked great against 2s and 3s, but he isn't complete yet. I'm glad the coaches are making him earn it too. I think he is the kind of kid where if they plugged him in on draft status alone it would go to his head and he might never realized the true scope of his talents. He'd be an all or nothing type player who might get you 1-2 home runds a week but not much in between.

For the record, I hope I'm pleasantly surprised and he blows up. Just trying to be a realist. The guys is absolutley electric to watch.

I don't see CP as that kind of guy, all the interviews and stuff he seems pretty humble. He does know he's physically gifted though but at the same time it seems like he also knows he has a lot of work to do. (he's said so himself) I seriously don't buy that if he was made a starter he'd start coasting ala randy moss either. I wouldn't be surprised if half way through the season he's earned the starting job though!

I honestly think CP needs to get more time with the first string. Hell, he has shown that he has ability in his first two games. I say give the guy a chance this Sunday. What is the worst that can happen?

Ya'll crazy. You can still polish yourself as a receiver even if you're returning kicks. Secondly, why handicap the capabilities of our team and the dynamic potential CP has as a playmaker on returns, by not allowing him to get hi s hand on the ball a few more times a game?...Makes no sense for him not to be handling kick returns.

You must be awful serious about what jackal said to quote it twice.

I was mostly referring to the first sentence there about him not returning kicks, specifically when he is a starter and a legit WR. I was hoping that would happen sooner rather than later. I'd rather have him focusing on becoming a better receiver then and get away from the special teams stuff. I'm hoping someone else will take over the returning responsibilities then. But as long as he's lower on the depth chart, of course he should return kicks if he's the best option.
