I guess we just have to wait and see again. Hopefully it will at least be a discussion this session.

"The three candidates said last month that the state should have a hand in building a replacement for the Metrodome. But for KFAN sports radio host Dan Barreiro, the campaign promise seemed a little stale, so he made the gubernatorial hopefuls take the commitment a step further last night.

"With all due respect to each of you, I don't believe any of you," said Barreiro. "Will one or more of you pledge tonight...that you will actually spearhead and lead the charge on that particular bill?"

Horner and Dayton gave Barreiror an unequivocal yes. Emmer responded with an affirmative as well, but hedged a little.

"I'm going to lead the effort to make sure that all existing business in this state, including the Minnesota Vikings, not only survive but thrive," said Emmer. "It's all of them. You're not going to get me to say this business is more important than that."

Though all are for the new stadium, how to pay for it is another matter.

Proposals to a build a stadium were pretty unpopular with the Legislature last session, and a recent poll shows Minnesotans are largely against any plan that involves funding through public money. "

^That's 100000x what Pawlently did, so I'm a lot more optimistic about it at this point.

No parking! My single biggest peeve about the dome.

My second problem is more just me, I don't like driving around the area.

I always thought they would be better off building to the south, Lakeview, Farmington area. They could buy a huge chunk of land for much less than the dome site costs and the infrastructure will follow. It gives them so many more options than trying to build around existing buildings ect…
I just drove through Sacramento a few weeks ago, and drove by Arco Arena. Home of the Kings. It is about 15 miles out in the middle of absolute nowhere. Lots of Parking, but absolutely nothing to do after the game but drive home. Yes, the lack of parking sucks at the dome, but at least you can stop off and get a beer at a pub, or make a day of it in downtown. I'll put up with no parking only because downtown Minneapolis is an electric place. The new twins stadium is a stones throw from hundreds of pubs and great eateries. Stadiums built out in the middle of a field just seem odd to me now.

Stadium Situation?

I live in California unfortunately and don't hear too much about the Vikings obviously. Is it true that the lease at the Metrodome ends this season??
Since obviously a new stadium wont be ready by next season what on earth could happen next season?? I would be CRUSHED if they moved, especially here to L.A.!!

And let's put the whole labor dispute aside I guess...

Thanks

I was under the impression that the lease ended AFTER the 2011 season (unless they consider that to be this season). Wilf has stated that he would NEVER move the team...but the fear is that he would sell the team to someone who would. It's all up in the air at this point, so not much to specifically note...just keep your eyes on the MN legislature in the near future for more developments.

Doesn't Wilf realize that he is making this franchise as unpopular as he can possibly make it when he holds on to Childress, a coach who stinks from an Xs and Os standpoint (witness the thoroughly unimaginative red zone offense this year, including yesterday) and who has completely lost the support of his players? I don't know if the stadium lease runs out after this year or after next year, but either way, it looks like this franchise has one foot in MN and one in LA, and there is no way to guess where it will take its next step. Right now, I doubt any city will be clamoring for a Wilf-led franchise.

i live close to LA. also. i havent heard a word about the vikings moving here. seems to me southern californians dont care if they get an nfl team in LA. i feel sorry for minnesotans especially after living there for 2 decades. minnesotans are diehard viking fans. i would lose all interest in the nfl if the vikings move.

Agreed. I'd never watch a game again...wouldn't be any point.

Glad it's 2011 season - a lot can happen with the new stadium by then..

WhatChanges MUST be made to improve chance of a new stadium?

With the public confidence at a low (maybe all-time low) for the Vikings, it would seem that fans/Minnesotans don't want to flip the bill for new stadium. What specifically MUST Zigi do to improve his chances for public funding of a new stadium?

Also, if Zigi "punts" on building public confidence, does he begin plans to move the team?

Oh yeah, START WEBB NOW!!!

HE WON'T MOVE THE TEAM! I can almost 100% guarantee this. What we have to worry about is the fact that he might sell it if he doesn't get what he wants.

Isn't that exactly why teams have moved out of L.A.? NFL football just hasn't done well there.
