Well, I do think the finer points and fundamentals are pretty important. Good decision making, accuracy, elusiveness, pass blocking - they go a long way.Mothman wrote: No, I used the right word. I was using it the sense that it means details or "the finer points" of something (in this case, quarterbacking).

not turning the ball over frequently is important but it doesnt really make up for a QB who everyone knows cannot throw down field. Shaun Hill is just as limited in terms of vertical passing as Bridgewater (if not more so). Consequently, defenses wont have any pressure to stretch the field and will stifle the run game and short passes.

Then I'm really confused. Why were criticizing me for placing importance on these things?Mothman wrote: Nobody is suggesting otherwise.

Re: Bridgewater Down
i've been a noted criticizer of teddy, but he looked better than i've ever seen this preseason by far. a 50 yard bomb in the first game and 3 bullets all near 20-30 yards to get rudolph the td in the second. it appears he was ready to take it to the next level and i think the season is a wash unless one thing happens: we trade for a big time qb. i don't care if it takes a first rounder (the question is who is available). this team is a good qb away from a title why not try and do a favre all in type scenario? i realize he was a free agent, but someone will be willing to talk for the right offer. we are talking about one position, albeit it is the most important, but why not make a move? i really don't think there is much to lose here. our defense is young and solid, we can make another offensive line signing or two next offseason why waste an entire season shuffling qb's? it doesn't make sense at all to me i'd be overturning every possible stone right now for a qb.

Teddy was clutch as hell last season and didn't turn the ball over. We can probably find a 14-9 td-int QB but we will not find anyone who is that clutch or calm in the pocket. I'd rather go with a veteran than one of these young 2nd or 3rd year guys who are prone to mistakes.

What a bold, and confrontational thing of you to say.fiestavike wrote:In his limited pass attempts last season, Bridgewater avoided a boat load of negative plays, and turned a good percentage of those into positive plays. Shaun Hill simply doesn't have the ability to replace that production. Anybody who goes on about replacing production in the form of TDs, INTs, Yards just reveals that they know absolutely nothing about what they talking about.
Bridgewater has been decent at getting out of trouble some through his first two years, but not good enough to make his statline any less replaceable. I don't think Hill could do it, but I think a couple others could.

They are important, but his actual production is important as well, I don't think Bridgewater is irreplaceable in either way.fiestavike wrote: How you conclude that these things are minutiae is beyond me. Maybe you used the wrong word?

While I disagree with your assessment of the division, ultimately you see it the same way I do.chicagopurple wrote:NOw that I have spent a night with a good bottle of wine, a Cubbie Win, and my 2 sympathetic Boxers/wife.....I put away the noose and realized that last year we won our division with a QB who had a truly mediocre year. If anything he regressed a bit. GB and Chicago have not really improved . SO, we really could have a reasonable year with a mediocre QB. Shaun Hill is NOT the answer though. I don't think he can pass anything deeper then 20 yrds. Spielmman just needs to find someone who, in the worlds of Joe Madden, understands the idea, "Just dont Suck".
Bridgewater hasn't produced to a point where a backup coming in and matching his production is all that unrealistic.

Re: Bridgewater Down
The reason it could have been serious is that if the athletic training and sports medicine didn't act quickly (in this case, placing an air splint on Teddy's knee and activating emergency services), the injury could have placed stress on his popliteal artery and/or peroneal nerve. This could have lead to risk of amputation of Teddy's leg and/or loss of the leg's function due to damage to the perennial nerve.S197 wrote: It still amazes me that someone can have that serious of an injury from what was described as just a typical drop back from under center. I mean, a tear, a sprain, okay I get that put close to losing a leg?
Is this type of injury one of those time bombs that was ready to go off or something that a perfect set of circumstances need to happen for this to occur? I guess what I'm wondering is was this really just a one in a million type thing or is there potential for this to be a Greg Childs type situation?
Most dislocations in the body aren't life-threatening. The knee, the hip, and the ankle are cases in the body where the injury can be life-threatening if the proper action is not taken.

It sounds like Sugarman and Co. did a fantastic job. Thank God it sounds like the life threatening and amputation possibilities have been averted. Can you tell us more about the nerve aspect, I've read conflicting reports, and there seems to be some indication that we really can't know about the nerve damage at this point. Do you think its still a real possibility that Teddy might never recover or even walk normally again? I read somewhere that this is not an uncommon outcome with this injury.HardcoreVikesFan wrote:
