That's exactly it. Money has been the issue the entire time. The point is: If the Skins want him badly enough to make it work then we should be more than willing to do what it takes. Allen and Williams--as veterans who know what Winfield means to the team--should jump at the chance to help bring him back. If the Skins end up making a bigger push for him than we do, i'll be very upset. The Vikings need to step up and make this happen.JEC334 wrote: Not unless we were restructure more contracts. I think Kevin Williams should take a paycut because he is somewhat non existent since Pat Williams left. Some would argue that Jared Allen should take one two after slow season but I don't think he deserves a pay cut just yet.

Antoine Winfield - DB - Free Agent
Free agent CB Antoine Winfield is not expected to make a decision until next week.
Along with RT Andre Smith and DE John Abraham, Winfield is among the top free agents left on the market. The Redskins have been pushing to sign him despite bringing back DeAngelo Hall and the Vikings remain firmly in the mix. Both clubs will have to do some salary cap maneuvering to meet Winfield's financial desires.

But the problem is that Winfield refused to take a paycut. So why would Allen and Williams want to take a paycut? They would probably feel short changed and wouldn't want to take a paycut for another player who didn't want to take a paycut. This should be very interesting. I wish Winfield would bring the price down. He is old now and he's more of a nickel back rather than a every down back. So he needs to understand his asking price is a little unfair.

Players can and often times do "restructure" their contracts to save cap space for the team. This might mean the appearance of a pay cut but it might entail more guaranteed money on the back end. I say good riddance to the 37 year old that apparently did not want to budge on any sort of diminished pay or restructure. If they can resign him to make the numbers work then fine but if not "so what"

Antoine Winfield - DB - Free Agent
The Vikings remain interested in re-signing CB Antoine Winfield.
Minnesota released the veteran corner last month, but has maintained all along the door is open for his return. The Redskins have been fighting hard to bring Winfield aboard, but only have $669,000 in cap space. The Vikings have $4.4 million, and coach Leslie Frasier has made it clear he wants Winfield back.

Re: Winfield released
He's got a lot to consider and absolutely no reason to rush into a decision. Moving to another team after so long isn't trivial for a player.mrc44 wrote:Winfield is probably just going to wait until mini camp and stuff is done so he doesn't have to deal with it and then sign back with the Vikings (PLEEEEEAAASSSEEE). Like old man Favre did and a lot of Vets are doing now. They are holding off since they wont get the big $ and just sign with a team after camp. just a thought... Otherwise I don't see what is taking him so long, all the offers he is going to get have presented themselves.A Team is not going to come out of no where and drop cash $ in his lap.

Re: Winfield released
I really hope Winfield resigns with the vikes. With a promising looking draft ahead a great zone CB /veteran like Winfield can only help, but there is if cap space permits. Re: Winfield released
Pelissero said that we have approximately $4.4MM left in cap space. How much is expected that we will need to sign incoming rookies? Doesn't seem like much would be left for Winfield.
Re: Winfield released
they can easily work out a solution to bring Winfield back and sign their rookies. Considering our main competition for him is Washington who only has $669 000 in cap spacePurple Domination wrote:Pelissero said that we have approximately $4.4MM left in cap space. Re: Winfield released
Exactly, even without restructuring contracts or cutting players, you sign him to a 5 years / X millionssaint33 wrote: they can easily work out a solution to bring Winfield back and sign their rookies. Considering our main competition for him is Washington who only has $669 000 in cap space
contract, with a 1M base salary and a 5 M signing bonus, he gets 6 M and only count 2 against
the cap this year and 4 in "dead money" after being released next year.
(Not saying that it is what they will/should do, or that it is what he deserves,
just saying that they can play with the cap if they want to)

Re: Winfield released
Apparently the Seahawks are interested now, how are they looking for cap space? I cant imagine they can offer anything better than we can.

Re: Winfield released
Blah. I just read this, too. I can't believe these guys just came outta nowhere at the last minute to be interested. I'd be shocked (if they have the money) if Winfield doesn't go there. They are a great team, and they have some familiar faces over there. I didn't realize when Bevell left that he'd try to lure as many Vikings players as he possibly could. Antoine Winfield - DB - Free Agent
At roughly $9 million, the Seahawks have more salary cap space than fellow Antoine Winfield bidders Minnesota and Washington.
So Seattle could win any potential bidding war. The Seahawks also boast the most talented roster in football and could give Winfield his best shot at a Super Bowl ring. Vikings coach Leslie Frazier has kept in touch with Winfield throughout his free agency and remains optimistic about a reunion. "I don't know what direction he's leaning, but I'm hoping he'll come back and be a Viking," Frazier said.

Wow, 9 million is crazy for their roster. I agree with MelanieMFunk that Seahawks should get their grimy hands off our good Viking players.dead_poet wrote:Antoine Winfield - DB - Free Agent

Wow, the Seahawks hype machine is in full swing, isn't it? They're talented, no doubt about it, but is that THE most talented roster in football? I'm not even sure it's the most talented roster in the NFC West.So Seattle could win any potential bidding war. The Seahawks also boast the most talented roster in football...
