But if you look at the raw numbers, Hill is at least Cassel’s equal — and actually gets the edge in a lot of career stats.
Completion percentage? Hill is at 62.2, while Cassel is at 59.0.
Interception percentage? Hill is picked off on 2.5 percent of his passes, while Cassel sits at 3.0.
Net yards per pass attempt? Hill is 5.95, Cassel is 5.78.
Passer rating? 85.5 for Hill, 80.1 for Cassel.
In terms of fit, Hill is comfortable being in the No. 2 role but can start in a pinch. Cassel seems to want another chance to be No. 1.
So Hill has slightly better numbers, is probably a better fit with Teddy Bridgewater entrenched as the No. 1 QB … and the Vikings saved money while adding draft value in getting Hill.
You have to give the Vikings and Rick Spielman kudos for this move.
And yet you have no answer to the case for Hill (other than the wall bang emoticon that you just can't make a post without) unless we take the opinion of the Bills as the gospel - and after all, who could argue with a powerhouse franchise like that. Exactly this....it's a trade that clearly benefited us in a few different ways (saved $$, stayed with a similar QB that knows Norvs system, and moved up 48+ picks in this years draft). Yeah sure seems like we lost a lotDK Sweets wrote:

It's not like Cassel is much better than Hill, if at all. Maybe not, but he is better. We downgraded our backup QB for a couple million and a couple late picks. It was a good result. But we still gave up something in the process. Not sure why that is so painful to admit. And how do you figure Cassel better? Hill has never thrown more INTs than TDs (which Cassel has done twice) and Hill shatters Cassel in completion percentage. Cassel has been floating under 60% his whole career whereas Hill has only been under 60 1 time. Cassel is 33-39 and Hill is 16-18. Maybe Cassel has more experience but the win loss column isn't a whole lot different.
