Man I would hate to depend on Hill if TB went down. This guy is a smidge better than Cassell but that is not saying much. They need to draft or pick up someone else.
Is Hill really better than Cassel?

I hope we never find out....but if I had to guess I'd say maybe.

Are chili beans really better than black beans?
It's pretty close.
Cassel has a greater pedigree, with 71 career starts to just 34 for Hill. And Cassel is two years younger than Hill, meaning the chance that he fades soon — as in, this year — is less likely.
But if you look at the raw numbers, Hill is at least Cassel’s equal — and actually gets the edge in a lot of career stats.
Completion percentage? Hill is at 62.2, while Cassel is at 59.0.
Interception percentage? Hill is picked off on 2.5 percent of his passes, while Cassel sits at 3.0.
Net yards per pass attempt? Hill is 5.95, Cassel is 5.78.
Passer rating? 85.5 for Hill, 80.1 for Cassel.
In terms of fit, Hill is comfortable being in the No. 2 role but can start in a pinch. Cassel seems to want another chance to be No. 1.
So Hill has slightly better numbers, is probably a better fit with Teddy Bridgewater entrenched as the No. 1 QB … and the Vikings saved money while adding draft value in getting Hill.
You have to give the Vikings and Rick Spielman kudos for this move.

His stats are not as bad as I thought. He may be decent. Hopefully we'll never have to find out.

And now, after a team *trades* for Cassell, and the team that traded him signs Hill to a smaller contract, Hill being better then Cassell is not only asked, but the Star Tribune is really making a case for Hill?
The madness continues.

And yet you have no answer to the case for Hill (other than the wall bang emoticon that you just can't make a post without) unless we take the opinion of the Bills as the gospel - and after all, who could argue with a powerhouse franchise like that. And Rex Ryan - THAT guy knows how to pick QBs.
I don't think anybody is saying that we clearly upgraded our QB2, but it is a positive sign that we were able to trade Cassel for cap space and improved draft picks while keeping our backup on virtually the same talent level. There's really nothing negative here.
Well, almost nothing negative.

Exactly this....it's a trade that clearly benefited us in a few different ways (saved $$, stayed with a similar QB that knows Norvs system, and moved up 48+ picks in this years draft). Yeah sure seems like we lost a lot

It's not like Cassel is much better than Hill, if at all.
But yeah lets bang our head on the wall because we think we know more than our front office and just enjoy being negative

Hill is a better fit due to his acceptance of the role, time in Turners system and he's cheaper.
Either one can win a couple of games in a pinch.
--
Outside of that, what more are you truly going to ask of any nonstarter who has been in the league on several teams?
I doubt one(Hill-Cassel) is all that better than the other straight up....but given the situation everyone involved came out pretty good in the deal.
--
I see the proffering of Hills numbers only in response to the question as to whether he was clearly a downgrade from Cassel, not that Hill is somehow supreme.

pfft Hill apologists

Maybe not, but he is better. We downgraded our backup QB for a couple million and a couple late picks. It was a good result. But we still gave up something in the process. Not sure why that is so painful to admit. Even the media is trying to paint it as a something for nothing deal in the end.
*insert twenty smilies*
Not sure why you seem to get so worked up when someone uses them...

And how do you figure Cassel better? Hill has never thrown more INTs than TDs (which Cassel has done twice) and Hill shatters Cassel in completion percentage. Cassel has been floating under 60% his whole career whereas Hill has only been under 60 1 time. Cassel is 33-39 and Hill is 16-18. Maybe Cassel has more experience but the win loss column isn't a whole lot different. However, Hill has been around this league for quite some time so experience doesn't really matter as much.
So no we didn't really give up anything when you actually look into it and not go by Demi standards. We jumped 48+ picks in the process and gained a 7th. Do you not realize how important it could be to move up that many picks. That puts us basically in the late 4th round compared to middle of the 6th.

Not to mention those are the exact picks that Rick will use to 1st round swap and move up slots to get really great players in the first.
extra late rounders are extremely valuable when doing high draft slot swaps.

You could probably take a few of Cassels W's away from when he was on the Patriots IMO. Those teams were stacked. Then look at the teams/talent Hill has been tied to.
The loss of Cassel is being so overblown. Yes he was a ggod teammate/locker room guy, but Hill is a better fit for this team and cheaper.
