I don't have the stomach to watch...but I too am confounded as to how a guy can blow both of those tendons without being hit. Like Jim said, maybe there is some genetic predisposition there. Really unfortunate. I was really looking forward to seeing this kid play.

So basically he jumped and had full body extension on a deep pass, and landed hard on both his knees? And tore ligaments in BOTH?! That's messed up.
and I would guess incredibly painful...

Second big long receiver we took a chance on with injury concerns. Maybe third time will be a charm?
Leave Plaxiglass alone. Has had some nice plays in his career, but I'm tired of seeing Viking WR's dropping balls.

So unfortunate for Greg Childs. I was really looking forward to see what he could be. Hopefully Jarius Wright steps up for us.

Maybe we could try to trade for Mike Wallace or Dwayne Bowe... Or then again, maybe not.

Being a huge Vikings fan, and also being from Arkansas, and a Greg Childs fan since his sophomore year, this is tough...tPre college injury I thought he'd be a great NFL receiver, and then after hearing all the great things about him in practice I thought he'd be a sure fire game changer. Hopefully he recovers, and still has a very productive career.

I agree. Plexiglass isn't what this current rebuilding Vikings team needs. In fact, I thought Childs very much fit the mold.

Maybe Jenkins can stay healthy and be the big WR who fights for the ball. I'm still not certain how good or bad Jenkins will be.

I know what you mean. I was excited when the Vikings drafted Childs. Hopefully, he'll fully recover. How many more big injuries can his body handle?

No player has returned from a bilateral patella tendon tear -- an injury so rare a 2009 study in the Iowa Orthopaedic Journal found only about 50 reported cases in the general population from English and German medical literature.

But what one NFL source called a "once in a lifetime" injury shouldn't be considered a death sentence for Childs' young career, nor a referendum on Vikings general manager Rick Spielman's decision to take a chance with the 134th overall pick in April's draft.

I would take t.o. before plexiglass burress. I thought an acl, and mcl was a worse injury over the pcl patella .

This just increased Jerome Simpson's value to the Vikings by a couple million per year. If the Vikings don't sign him to an extension before the end of the season, they're going to have a sorry looking group of wide receivers going into the offseason. Without Simpson it could be Percy Harvin and nobody.

Just watched the play on Kare 11 news. It really didn't look too bad. I couldn't find the video but here are some pictures.

Mothman wrote: It could easily have something to do with it. Camp reps aren't game reps and camp stats are even less meaningful than preseason stats, especially without any real context. The quote from Craig Johnson is amusing but I wouldn't worry about it at all. It just sounds like a coach pushing a player.
I had a different take on this, I viewed it as a strong positive. Last year Ponder would force the ball, often to Harvin, and not take his check downs which resulted in several of his picks. The fact that he is making his reads and making the safest throw is IMO a strong positive. Fewer picks from our young QB will add wins to our record.

Greg Childs - WR - Vikings

Vikings waived/injured WR Greg Childs.

They re-signed undrafted WR A.J. Love in a corresponding move. Childs, the 134th overall pick in April's draft, will miss his entire rookie season with double patellar tendon tears after rupturing his right patellar tendon as a junior at Arkansas. We wouldn't rule him out after he came back from the first one, but the odds are heavily against Childs having an NFL career.

Frazier says Childs had no ligament damage on top of the patellar tendons. Childs told Frazier "I'll be back."

The Blair Walsh Project

This was from 50 yards. Looks like it could've gone about 60: http://www.1500espn.com/videos/vikings_ ... al_into_cr

Chris DeGeare and Joe Berger will get reps at right guard. Not ready to name Fusco the starter. Schwartz surgery is tomorrow.

Agreed. As I said in another thread, I don't mind the one year "prove it" deal for a guy like Simpson. But if he does prove that he's the real deal, the Vikings need to sign him to a bigger and better contract asap. If they don't, some other team will at the end of the season.
