The Vikings still want Winfield back in a reduced role, but he could be an every-down player again with cornerback-needy Washington. The Redskins are also a more viable 2013 Super Bowl contender than Minnesota. Winfield, who turns 36 in June, graded out as the NFL's No. 1 cornerback in Pro Football Focus' 2012 ratings. He's a natural left corner who does his best work in slot coverage.

Given that Winfield's best work is in slot coverage and that he's 36, does he really want to be an every down corner? I thought I read that Winfield was warming up to the idea of a reduced role for the Vikings since nickel coverages are used so frequently anyway.
Whatever the case, I'm going to continue hoping that Winfield comes back to the Vikings.

fwiw don't follow @Vikeologist on twitter. He said rumors were "swirling" that we were about to resign Winfield on Saturday

As much as it would suck to see Winfield play for someone else--It's hard not to wish him the very best. He's a stud, and he deserves it--unlike Harvin, who I wish has minimal success and many future migraines.

Antoine Winfield - DB - Free Agent
Free agent CB Antoine Winfield is visiting the Redskins on Wednesday, but is considering offers from "at least two other teams," including the Vikings.
Winfield is reportedly "intrigued" by the prospect of playing for Washington, but is apparently far enough along in talks with other teams that he may cancel his visit. Per reporter Mike Jones, Winfield's priority is "finding the perfect fit rather than deciding solely on financial terms." The "perfect fit" may very well still be in Minnesota.

After nine years of playing with the Vikings and given his good relationship with Frazier, I'm hoping Winfield decides there is no other fit but to come back.

Thanks for that link. According to that we are in better cap space than I thought...and we might have some leverage for Winfield as long as the, play every down issue, isn't a huge one with him.
A better link for cap space.

Antoine Winfield is meeting w the Redskins today. His free agency experience is being described as "fluid", "complex" ... More very soon. Winfield has definitely not ruled out a return to the Vikings. But there are some complicated feelings to sort through...

Any money that Jerry Jones has managed to lay his grubby little mitts on? You would imagine that souls evaporate in this instance.

Hmmm...I was thinking the same, but with Dan Snyder.

If #Redskins don't land Antoine Winfield, I wouldn't be surprised if #Seahawks or even #Browns (hometown team) become options. Vikings have been in daily communication with Winfield's reps since he was cut. But I don't see him taking less money to come back.
At least one interested team is waiting it out for now, seeing if price tag ($3M to $5M, depending whom you ask) comes down.

This has gone on for too long. Given what Frazier and every teammate interviewed has said about their respect for Winfield on the field and in the locker room, why the heck can't the Vikings just wrap this up and re-sign the guy?
Yeah, yeah, I know. It's more complex than that.

See, you didn't even need to ask the question.
At this point, winfield is probably happy to leave them hanging and explore his options.

I might throw up if he lands in Seattle.
