@AlbertBreer Here's the deal -- Peterson felt betrayed by the Vikings. Has wanted Vikes to up guarantees to rebuild trust. Team sees things differently.

Getting a kick out of reading reactions to Peterson's nonsensical twitter rant. So far this is the best one:

I work in an "at will" state, meaning they can fire me tomorrow if they like. No guarantee. Conversely, I could also walk out tomorrow if I like.

Is this the sort of option AD wants? Yes, teams tend not to honor contracts until the end and guess what, overperforming athletes also generally get their contracts restructrued before expiration. It works both ways and I don't see the issue, they call it -guaranteed- money for a reason, anything beyond that is subject to performance.

Most people have no guarantee at all and everything is performance based. So put me in the camp that's having a real hard time feeling sorry for Adrian or any other player in the NFL for that matter.

Every time the Vikings are mentioned for the past year, its about AD, and Im as sick of it as I am him. The Vikings didnt screw up, he did. If he feels the Vikes mistreated him, prove it. I think Zimmer and Rick will do the right thing, which is to make him play or fine him. But it would be nice to read the paper or hear ESPN news, with the Vikings being mentioned solely for AD. Like we somehow shafted him. Whats he going to do when he finds out he lost some fans, and his jersey stops selling? Blame us? I burnt mine, I really should demand my money back from him (whatever portion he gets), using his logic.
I must say, this is exactly how I feel. What in gods name do the Vikings owe you??

  I hear ya Dakota. The only reason I have one is because I get on during free agency because for some reason, every move hits twitter before anything else. Otherwise, I can't stand it.

I know contracts in the NHL and MLB are all guaranteed for the life of the contract. I think that's also the case for the NBA but I don't follow the NBA so I'm guessing on that. In the NHL you can buyout a contract at a slightly reduced price but it still counts against that team's cap.

Perhaps that's what Peterson is thinking about in his twitter rant. If he thinks there is some injustice with the fact that in the NFL guaranteed contracts are at the discretion of each team ... then he needs to take that up with the agent that negotiated his last contract extension (Dogra?) or with the NFLPA who negotiated the collective bargaining agreement.

The NFL owners are never going to give in on making all contracts guaranteed; mostly due to the fact that injures are more prevalent in football than in other sports (although hockey is not too far off).

If Peterson continues with this line of criticism of the Vikings ... he's in danger of losing most of the fan base. He's already lost a chunk of the fan base given his transgressions with what he did to his son.

Agreed. I doubt he understands this. 90% of jobs in this world are at-will employment.

He doesn't have one of those jobs. His concerns are with his profession, not ours.

I'm pretty sure NBA contracts are guaranteed as well, which would leave the NFL as the only one of the 4 major sports in the U.S. without that set-up.

Sure. He can #### all he wants about his current contract, but he seemed pretty damn happy when he signed it.

I love his tweet about contracts needing to be two sided. I just want to shake him and say YOU SIGNED IT, IT WAS TWO SIDED

I hear the world's smallest violin playing in my head when I hear Peterson of all people complaining about his contract. I may feel sorry for some guy making league minimum who is breaking out and showing teams how wrong they were, but not the highest paid guy at his position.

I just don't understand how NFL contracts are one-sided. Because they are not guaranteed?

If an NFL team cuts a player, that player walks with whatever guaranteed money was in the contract and can sign with any team at the market rate. I fail to see how that hurts players in the league. Further, when a players contract ends that player is free to sign with any team at the market rate in free agency. Nobody forced AD to stay with the Vikings or sign a new contract when he did.

I think we're seeing the real motivation behind AD's rant. He wants out plain and simple. He should offer to pay back his guaranteed money in exchange for the Vikings cutting him, along with whatever money they paid him last year. If I were Spielman I'd strongly consider doing that, but AD is beyond a fool if he thinks the Vikings are going go let him walk with that $$$ in his pocket.

Vikes want compensation for their investment AD. You want your freedom your best play is to give them that and stop making a public spectacle of yourself. That would be my advice to him.

Have any of APs real friends ever just told him that his life would be a lot better if he just kept his mouth shut under most circumstances? ANY time he starts talking he just exposes himself as a shallow fool who is easily misled. He clearly has no ability to see the world as it is, its all just about "poor me". He just enjoyed the luxury of being paid Millions of dollars to do absolutely nothing for a full year, and he thinks the world is going to feel bad for his horrible abusive contract?!?? Really? He just needs to shut up, run the ball, and enoy being filthy rich for playing a game.
