Re: Check Down Charlie
I wouldnt call myself a ponder "supporter", more of a ponder "believer", i believed that ponder was smart enough and atheletic enough to come in and be our QB for the next decade. Regretably though, i no longer believe and i am starting to swing towards the ponder sucks catergory.
I am not saying that there isnt any fault on the receivers or the o-line because there is, but ponders performance has just been abbysmal the last few weeks. I truly thought that the long break would help, i was wrong unfortunately, and i dont expect thing to improve before the first chicago game.
I would not be opposed to letting joe webb close out the season...

During practice, he wears a red shirt and nobody is allowed to hit him. He probably throws much better in that situation.Purplemania wrote:I wonder what it is the coaches are doing with him at practice? Is'nt it their job to evaluate Ponder and get him ready to use their game plan? Is Ponder this bad at practice? If he is, why are they not coaching him up? Do they only allow him to throw 2 yard dump offs at practice? Is it possible that what we are seeing on game day is exactly what they are asking him to do during practice?

Take the redshirt off, not even kidding. He needs to learn. Fast.soflavike wrote: During practice, he wears a red shirt and nobody is allowed to hit him. He probably throws much better in that situation.

Well based on Ponders performance that red shirt must make him feel like superman and his purple one must be kryptonitesoflavike wrote: During practice, he wears a red shirt and nobody is allowed to hit him. He probably throws much better in that situation.

And the secondary is not allowed to be within 10 yards of the receivers. They want wide open windows for him.soflavike wrote: During practice, he wears a red shirt and nobody is allowed to hit him. He probably throws much better in that situation.

Re: Check Down Charlie
Sitting Ponder is a mistake IMHO. He needs to play through this. If he is unable to then he is not cut out mentally for this game. We've all seen some very good QBs go through some slumps. What sets them apart is their mental toughness and determination. They don't pull back and start to play not to make mistakes. The good ones push ahead and push the hall downfield, push the ball into the tight windows. I don't know yet if Ponder has what it takes in his head. He may be smart, but he my not be tough. He needs the rest of the year to find out if he's got what it takes. I also think the coaches have GOT to turn him him loose and push him. Push him to make those tight throws, push him to give his receivers a chance. Get some better pass routes. Timing routes, spot routes etc. Give him all the opportunities you can. We are not winning the Superbowl this year but We have GOT to give this kid a full hearing. If he can't do it this is really the year to find out.

Re: Check Down Charlie
Bump for the checkdown thread. Check down vs. the Bears a smooth 58.18 passer rating. Grated our receivers did drop some balls today, he still sucks. Question: Is their a starting QB in the league right now that is worse than Ponder? I really cannot think of one.

Just not a natural pocket passer. No potential to win in the NFL with current skill set. He's too old to change. Let's move on. Go Vikes!purplehaze wrote:Bump for the checkdown thread. Re: Check Down Charlie
Listening to post game, Ponder will be given a pass due to the dropped passes. It's always something, other than a good game, with him, with a few notable exceptions.
Re: Check Down Charlie
I've been saying for months that there are only a few NFL starting QBs over whom I'd prefer Ponder. Mark Sanchez is the only sure answer for me, but I'd also take him over Weeden, Skelton/Kolb/Lindley, and Cassel.purplehaze wrote:Bump for the checkdown thread. I'd rather have Henne or Locker/Hasselbeck over Ponder. Which is saying something, because those guys suck. But Ponder just flat out blows. Ryan Tannehill would have 8 wins with this team. I firmly believe that.

No thanks on Sanchez. I wouldnt mind Skelton, I just think he needs a good QB coach. I am finshed with Poinder. And so sick of all the Tjoke excuses people make for him.admvp wrote: I've been saying for months that there are only a few NFL starting QBs over whom I'd prefer Ponder. Re: Check Down Charlie
This is literally the same exact thing we had with T-Jack all over again. Different faces and names, same result. Let's show we learned something, and give up on Ponder NOW, so that we don't waste more time. I do believe we have a talented squad. BUT WE NEED A QUARTERBACK.PurpleKoolaid wrote: No thanks on Sanchez. I wouldnt mind Skelton, I just think he needs a good QB coach. I am finshed with Poinder. Watching the 49ers play the Saints... I'll take Colin Kaepernick over CDC.
