That 's how it sounds to me, too. It's probably a good move. No reason to overload the rookie.

Report: Lovie Smith to take over Buccaneers' defensive play-calling

So Lovie is taking over Defensive calls from Frazier? Sounds like someone may be out the door pretty soon.

This is just typical behavior from Lovie Smith. This is what he does with his coordinators. He plays musical coordinators. He's already on his second OC in Tampa Bay and he went through 3 defensive coordinators and 4 offensive coordinators during his 9 years in Chicago. With the Bears, he would take over playcalling from his DCs and then hand it back. When it comes to managing his coordinators, Lovie is as indecisive as they come.

By the way, since this is really about the Bucs, it probably should have been posted in NFL Talk. This thread is really for comments about the Vikes.

• Rookie LB Eric Kendricks got a fair amount of work with the first-team defense as a middle linebacker on Thursday as the Vikings continue the competition.

• S Anthony Harris intercepted a Taylor Heinicke pass intended for Chase Ford, ripping the ball out of Ford's hands as he bobbled the pass.

• The Vikings continue to work various defensive ends in dropping into coverage. Earlier this week, rookie DE Danielle Hunter was seen dropping into space. On Thursday, Justin Trattou got some looks in drops. DE Scott Crichton continued to work as a pass-rushing tackle aside from his defensive end duties.

• TE MyCole Pruitt (ankle), C John Sullivan (spasms), S Antone Exum (hamstring), OT Carter Bykowski (pec), DT Shamar Stephen (knee) and CB Josh Robinson (pec) did not practice.

Thanks but that comment was just my clumsy way of suggesting where a post like that should be placed in the future. :)

@mattvensel With first roster cuts looming after Saturday's game, Zimmer said the #Vikings might not fill open roster spots.
@mattvensel Mike Zimmer said he has decided who will start at MLB this weekend but didn't share because he hasn't told the team. I'm guessing Kendricks. "If it goes good this week, maybe we'll go with it the rest of the way."
@christomasson Mike Zimmer said yesterday he, Rick Spielman, George Edwards and Adam Zimmer watched all MLB preseason plays on tape to evaluate competition
@Andrew_Krammer LB Anthony Barr did "all right" in first game action since Nov., per Zimmer. "A couple times he didn’t flash like he normally flashes."
@Andrew_Krammer Zimmer wants to see Barr 'get into the game tempo' more, says he was missing "the extra burst that you need." #Vikings
@Andrew_Krammer Zimmer gave #Vikings 'points of emphasis' for this week, including patches to fix holes he's seen in run game, defending run.
MasterStrib Zimmer said he doesn't expect the #Vikings to fill Loeffler's roster spot at this point in the preseason. Roster at 89 right now.
@MasterStrib "We obviously didn't run the ball well enough, which is an area of emphasis this week." -Zimmer #Vikings
@christomasson Zimmer did not want to be specific about chase ford chances to make team and keeping four tight ends
‏@mattvensel Mike Zimmer said releasing Cullen Loeffler had nothing to do with Blair Walsh's misses the other night. [McDermott]"was faster with his snaps. He was more accurate with his snaps."
@FO_ScottKacsmar Pct. of 2014 defensive snaps by players team drafted
1. Vikings 77.6%
2. Rams 73.5%
31. Saints 38.0%
32. Colts 15.3% (!)

They'll keep the roster at 89 (not sign someone to take Cullen's spot). Perhaps as they release a few players prior to the cut they won't fill roster spots until othre teams have cut players.
