Just something I accidentally came across this morning when I was looking for something else:

Paul Krause (81 career interceptions)
Krause's career got off to a fast start, as he led the NFL with 12 interceptions. Sixteen seasons later, Krause retired as the NFL's all-time interceptions leader, besting Emlen Tunnell's career total of 79. Of recent vintage, Rod Woodson came the closest with 71 interceptions. Ancient warrior Charles Woodson is the active leader with 60 interceptions, having attained that total in 17 seasons.
“We were signing autographs one night and this older guy came up to me and says, ‘So, you’re the one who has 81 interceptions?’ ” said Krause, who retired in 1979 and still owns the NFL record for career interceptions. “I says, ‘Yeah, I’m very proud of that.’ He says, ‘Well, I want to tell you something. I have 1,700 interceptions.’
“He was the guy who invented the Iron Dome, which protects Israel from missiles. He’s got 1,700 hits on missiles coming into Jerusalem.”
Krause paused for a second and shook the man’s hand.
“I told him, ‘Your 1,700 interceptions are a heck of a lot more useful than my 81.’
The amazing thing is that Krause played when the league was very much a run first and throw on 3rd down offense throughout the league (except the wild and crazy Vikings). So, he actually got a lot less over all chances at interceptions. In todays game its pass pass pass and run the ball every now and then. So, today''s Safeties should be threatening to surpass Krause. It makes it all the more impressive that he has established such a high benchmark!

As i have said, i think yesterdays game would have been easier acheive that mark being that contact from DB to WR was allowed all over the field at any point, and the O-Line wasnt allowed to block with their hands., the game is skewed towards the pass in a favorable way to WRs and QBs in these post rule change days.

Been awhile since I looked at the Hail Mary Pass.
How did they not call holding on the Cowboys RG (#61)? He basically tackled Gary Larsen and took him to the ground and the ref is looking right at it. That type of play gets called automatically in today's game (maybe not back then?).
In today's game would Pearson get called for offensive pass interference? I'd say it's probably 50-50 at best. It doesn't look as blatant as I thought it would. There's contact but there isn't much of a push or shove. Suppose it's heresy to say that.
And why were we in a single high safety formation? Time running out with Dallas at midfield and we only have one safety deep. Perhaps that was the state of the game back in the mid 70s. Krause is way late in getting over to help Nate Wright. Looks like he bit hard on Staubach's head fake.

I think if Krause would have tried that he would have killed him and Nate Wright. We all know of the push off and I sigh and lament watching that and I want to know why there was not a flag thrown on whoever pulled Larsen down.
The backfield was serviceable back then but not known for their big hits. One thing about his record, that was 81 times he gave the ball back to his offense. Some of those not a Viking but nonetheless.
