A little bit of a background on Carter's son:

Duron Carter is a 6-5, 205 pound WR playing for the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL (same team Ochocinco plays for). He is only 23 years old and racked up 75 receptions for 1030 yards and 7 touchdowns last season. He ranked 3rd in receiving yards last season (in the CFL) and T-2nd in touchdown receptions. A reported 15 NFL teams are interested in Duron Carter.

Didn't we already cut him? Not only cut him but not even put him on the practice squad?

Just because you're related to a good NFL player doesn't mean you are going to be anything to write home about. See: David Carr, Jordan Palmer, Matt Kalil.

yes we did, and now we're taking another look at him. The Giants once cut Cameron Wake and I'd bet they'd wished they had a second chance with him. Not saying Carter will be as good as Wake, but just because he was cut from our team a few years ago doesn't mean he hasn't improved in the areas he needs to improve in.

As for the the discussion about WRs making the transition from CFL to NFL, it is pretty rare, probably more so than any other position. In the CFL the WRs get a running start before the ball is snapped, so it's not always easy to recognize those who can make a difference in the NFL because you aren't seeing them run the same routes and you're not seeing how they explode off the line of scrimmage/deal with press coverage at the line from a standing position.

Carter sounds like he has taken steps forward since he was in camp with us a couple of years ago. He would be worth a shot.

I am not sure how I feel about our WR group. It has talent, but I don't know if it need a major upgrade - I am conflicted. :?

I think it does need an upgrade but we have much more pressing needs to attend to.

I think signing Carter would be a great low risk high reward signing. I mean this kid stands at 6'5 205 and just put up pretty solid numbers in the CFL. It's not going to cost us a whole lot so I think he's a must sign IMO.

I think he would be a great pick up for the risk too.

I remember his issues weren't talent related as much as motivation and professional attitude stuff.

He basically flunked out of college and his game was really raw as a result when he first was in an NFL camp.

I followed some of the articles about his progress in that regard while he's been in the CFL...and it sounds fairly legit that he's got his head on better and is putting it together on the field like a pro.

The only problem I see is that he's not exactly under the radar now...like when he was first here. There should be few teams competing for him.

Huge talented kid.

I read there are at least 10 teams interested, though that could be agent-speak. I wouldn't doubt it, though.

He went through two or three college programs and none of them went to well.

Didn't get invited to the national combine. Due to his college issues.

Showed up at the Regional combine with Father in tow and was too busy doing interviews
and working on his HOF speech for the NFL from what it sounded like. Blew off some scouts
at the regional combine. Here we come CFL ...

He supposedly is very talented but needed to figure out no team was going to put with his garbage
just because his dad is Cris Carter.

In a way it sounds similar to what his dad went through.

Getting cut by the Eagles was huge in getting CC's head turned around.

I remember reading something a former college teammate of the younger Carter said about him....something to the effect of him being the worst teammate he'd ever had. This was the QB talking too.

Everything I've read recently coming from his CFL teammates suggests he's been completely humbled.

That's the kind of thing college can't always teach a person.

Anyway, I like a good redemption story and I'm rooting for him to pull it together. It's one of my favorite things about sports in general....overcoming tribulations and fulfilling potential.

The offseason was just a few hours old for non-playoff teams when we had our first arrest in almost two months. Vikings rookie cornerback Jabari Price was arrested early Monday morning and charged with driving while impaired.
Building our "most arrests in the last decade" lead. And now this guy is coming back? Why can't we just say no, let someone else give him a second chance? We don't need the risk for a team with the public relations hit this one has taken lately...

If I'm not mistaken, Duron Carter has no arrest record, no legal issues in his past, yet you're implying that he's a risk to add to the team's PR issues with criminal behavior. He had some maturity issues in college but from what I've been able to ascertain, he was pretty much a model citizen in the CFL.
