I know what you mean. I still don't understand why the NFL never held an NFC championship game in 2000. I even went to the Super Bowl that year but I can't seem to remember how it was decided that the Giants would represent the conference against the Ravens. Weird, eh?

I think the problem was that the Vikings are the ones who forgot that there was a game that day.

I for one was a big fan of Favre when he was here. I never 'liked' the guy when he played for Green Bay, but I had respect for him as a player. We had a great run while he was here in Minnesota.

Anyway, his comments don't offend me! What else is he supposed to say? I mean, it would like really asinine if he had said, "oh, I just loved my time in Minnesota," while he is going to be inducted into Green Bay's hall of fame.

What will be interesting is when he gives his HOF induction speech. I wonder if Madden is going to inducted him when it comes to be his turn to be enshrined...

This right here . Come on guys what'd you expect him to say? His performance that year (I'm trying to forgot 2010 as well xD), speaks louder than anything he can say now. He's just trying to appease the sheep over in cheese land.

Exactly, no matter what he says, you know damn well he loved sticking it to Ted Thompson those 2 games in 2009. And if it weren't for a handful of BS calls, and a poor effort by Randy Moss, he would have stuck it to them in Lameblow again 2010 .... errr I mean in that other year that I can't recall right now.

Just several things here ...

1) So what you're saying is, you would rather have seen them waste another season trying to fit the square peg that is TJack, into the round hole that is a starting QB position in this league, rather than bringing back Favre who brought us to within a few plays of a Super Bowl? Unless you had a crystal ball, you can't tell me you foreseen the disaster that awaited us in the season that everyone would like to forget.

2) You don't think a posse of players going south to coax Favre into returning for 1 more year spoke volumes on how much confidence they had in TJ leading their football team? That didn't tell you all you needed to know about TJ?

3) Had TJ been the starter in 2010, how would the scenario have turned out any different? We keep Rosenfels and have him and Webb under contract? How is that any better? At best we still finish 6-10, Childress still gets fired, and we still end up with Christian Ponder when they still realize TJ has no business being a starter in this league.

No, that's not what I meant.

If it had been up to me, they would have moved on from both TJ and Favre by 2010. I would never have signed Favre in the first place, although admittedly his first season with the team definitely went better than I expected. It was apparent by 2009 that the Vikings weren't really committed to Jackson as their QB of the future and yet they spent an additional 2 years doing nothing to address the long term future of the position (I'm discounting Webb because it's clear that they never viewed him as a potential long term starter).

I understand but you misinterpreted what I was saying as an endorsement of Jackson when it was meant as a condemnation of the way the team managed the QB position. Their complete lack of effort to address the future at QB led directly to their desperation in the 2011 draft and the selection of you-know-who. They had the right idea in drafting and developing a QB but they obviously ended up with the wrong player. Hopefully, Bridgewater will turn out to be the right one.

I think we can agree (boy I make some huge assumptions) that Teddy already looks better than Ponder ever did. That's not saying he's the answer to our prayers, but at least it's a step in the right direction.

Bridgewater looked poised in the pocket on Saturday and played very well but that was one preseason performance against backup players. In week 1 of the preseason, I thought he looked more like Ponder has looked when he's been ineffective so I'm not jumping to any conclusions. I just hope he keeps getting better and provides the team with the answer at QB they've been seeking for most of the past few decades.

I agree that week one was rough, and I was crucified for saying that he looked no better than the P-word. I truly cannot remember Ponder ever being as composed in the pocket as Teddy looked against Arizona, though, and his passes clearly have more zip. That is where I think he's already shown more ability, even if it is very early on.

I've seen Ponder look very composed, though too rarely. However, Teddy clearly throws a better pass. I thought that was clear just watching him in college. Ultimately, I don't think it really matters how he compares to Ponder. Hopefully, he'll end up being much better and more consistent than his predecessor. He needs to be much better...

I apologize if I sound skeptical. I'm very excited about Bridgewater's potential but I'm particularly cautious about drawing conclusions from a small sample size and especially from preseason games. I know there are many people here who feel otherwise (and quite strongly) but even though there's some value in preseason football, it's different enough from "real", regular season football that I don't view it as a reliable indication of what can be expected from players and teams in the regular season. Given the situation Teddy was in on Saturday, he performed admirably and I want to believe that's a sign of great things to come. If he faces that kind of situation in a meaningful game, I hope we see the same outcome.
