There is some talent in the crop, and the best through two days certainly has been Fresno State's Derek Carr, younger brother of former No. 1 overall pick David Carr.
But the remaining five quarterbacks on the two squads have yet to show they can be considered anything near NFL starting material coming out of college. That has been the biggest takeaway of this intriguing but fairly underwhelming group so far.
I definitely agree with that, with the hype wave he's been on Jimmy G could sneak into the very late first round. I just don't think it really matters who's there with the 8th pick. I wouldn't feel good about the Vikings taking any of these guys #1. Go defense first and see if Jimmy or somebody else you like is there in the 2nd.
Drafting a QB is always a gamble. Go for a more likely hit in another area of dire need and hope you can land a guy they'll compare to Russell Wilson or Kap with a later round selection.
I still think the chances of either Teddy or JFB falling to us are still pretty decent. You have to remember there are A LOT of other players that are projected to go early and would fill needs for those teams ahead of us. I highly, highly doubt its us. Especially with Cassel on our roster. Spielman has missed once already, I couldn't see him ever picking up that bust. My guess is it's Oakland because they have been known to do very dumb things like that over the years. But as long is this isn't us....this is very good news. The reason being, if they think Sanchez will be their starter, they will pass on a QB in the 1st (chances are). Perhaps the 27-year-old Sanchez will be seen as a bridge guy for a rookie. The top quarterback free agents available right now are Michael Vick, Josh McCown, Josh Freeman, Shaun Hill and Chad Henne.
Other then Kiper, who is out of his mind on this, who has the Vikings somehow drafting JFB or Teddy? Its a fairytale. If we could really get Teddy at 8th, I would say it would be an honest to god miracle. There are 3 teams in front of us that need a QB worse then us. And Teddy and JFB (for some insane reason) are #1 and 2. And Bortles, Carr etc are screaming up the charts, but there is still a gap. I hope im wrong. I had Ponder going in the 3rd and idiot Spielman paniced after Locker got snatched up, and took him at 12, but I am not usually off by that far with QBs. I watch and re-watch ESPN with the QBs. And I picked Mallet as my personal favorite in that draft. I think he still is. Listen anything can happen. There has been reports than some QB needy teams aren't as intrigued by Bridgewater as some may think. There has also been rumors that Bortles could go before Teddy as well. Mallet was my favorite in that draft as well. Either way....Geno, Barkley and Nassib were projected top 15 last year and fell way out of the first and Manuel came out of nowhere and was the first QB taken. Like I said, anything can happen. No, of course I don't want Sanchez either but if I HAD to pick between those 2, you know who I'd rather have.
I am in full-blown, "Anybody but Ponder!" mode. It's time for a fresh start and that guy is the poster boy for this team's recent failures. He has to go!!
Probably about as close as Sanchez would have had he been on the same Vikings teams. Reaching a conference championship game is a consequence of overall team performance and those Jets teams had far, far better defenses than anything the Vikings have put on the field in recent years. In 2009, they had the #1 defense in the NFL in terms of both yardage and points allowed.
