It kinda looks like a yellow snowball. Perhaps a rowdy fan throwing a beer soaked snowball at Pearson? But then again it appears to bounce so maybe a ball of some sort? You know it almost looks like Krause stopped because of that yellow object and when we think he's pointing at Pearson, he's actually pointing in the direction where the thrown object came from.

Sometimes it's just good therapy to talk about all these old painful feelings. And I don't know about anyone else, but the more I watch those old painful games or highlights the less and less painful they become.

I constantly see this claim made by fans, and think that the majority of people stating it have never even seen the play, yet they regurgitate it as if it were a given. The play was referenced most recently in the SB Vikings thread and I didn't want to steer that thread off topic. You'd think the Vikings missed the 1975-76 Super Bowl by the thinnest of margins, but they were knocked out by the Cowboys in the first round.

Pearson did NOT push off.

i've seen this stated several times over the years but have never found anything to back up the claim that pearson admitted to pushing off. even as late as a few years ago he still maintained he didn't. anyone have a link of this so called confession?

If Pearson did push off it wasn't egregious. I've seen a lot worse not called.

But I think that misses the point because as so many here constantly remind so many, a game doesn't come down to a single play. There were other significant failings that led to the play even being relevant to the outcome, like the failure to stop the Cowboys on 4th-and-17 earlier in their final drive.

Also, on the push play, I've always wondered why Wright was singled up on Pearson to begin with. Why wasn't Krause or another safety deeper and in better position to help? Even if Wright and Pearson had both jumped for the ball, in that situation you don't want your DB locked up in single coverage if you can possibly help it. Some see Krause as giving up on the the play, but I see him as just realizing he can't make a play because he's not in a position to make one. In that situation it's either Wright makes it or Pearson scores.

Krause was deep enough, as can be seen in the replay. He was just a split second too late. Any deeper and he'd have been in the end zone. As to whether or not he pulled up on the play ... maybe. To get to the ball he would have had to go through Nate Wright, so I don't think it's that odd. Like you say, either the CB defends the pass or he doesn't. Once Pearson hauled in the ball (which he wasn't even sure he had caught) it was only two steps into the end zone.
