I think Patterson is one of those picks that could be fantastic or terrible. No middle ground.
From what I have seen and read I think that I will be shocked if he does not excel as a receiver and in fact is exactly what the Vikes needed to stretch the field and come down with "jump" balls. Well obviously we all want him to be a good WR, and expect that. But even if this doesn't happen, he brings more to the table than toothpick leg TWill. Bad side is I didn’t see a ton of catches, and the ones he did make that looked good seemed to be from subpar coverage. While I don’t see great speed, he seems like a fantastic return guy and just has great instincts on where to run and making guys miss. And here’s the biggest thing. The majority of his highlights seemed to entail getting a short pass, or being handed the ball and then running around the field for 20 minutes for a big gain. The reason I’m intrigued by this is he might be the perfect WR for the Vikings because of this talent. Not to bash Ponder, but a lot of his passes are 0-10 yards away from him, and Patterson appears to be the type who turns those short passes into yardage. The only caveat to that is it only seems to happen in the open field, and I’m not seeing enough evidence that he can fight for that ball when he’s covered or has great leaping ability or long bomb catching ability in general. But with Greg Jennings here and Jarius Wright showing great ability to catch the bombs, we might not need him for that. But what he is good at, might really help the Viking offense more than it might other teams.
He doesn't have crazy top end speed, it's how fast he accelerates that's amazing.losperros wrote: Two things:

Second, you didn't see great speed? Then you need to watch different highlight reels. Patterson can outright fly.
