I'm usually not one to show love for so many players who are mostly in this league to make money and feed their own egos, but if there's any one Vikings player in the past 15 years who _deserves_ to be a Viking for his entire career and retire with pride, and for whom the Vikings organization should bend over backwards to accommodate in his final years, it's Kevin Williams.

I agree. He has always put forth the effort and doesn't get in trouble off the field.

Guys you are being a bit hypocrtical here. Teams have the right to restructure deals, just as players have the right to demand more money when they are overperforming vs. their contract. (Harvin was right with his grumblings in this regard) William's production wasn't worth $7MM a year. They guy is great, nothing against him, but there is still a Salary Cap and you are not going to win a championship by overpaying veterans who are not what they once were, even if they are great team players and all of that.
Do you guys think Jared Allen is going to make $17MM a season again? I don't. They'll probably restructure him and extend the contract. That is the nature of the NFL. The key is handling it properly. They were right to reduce Winfield, but the way they did it was probably not the best for the team. Of course, we do not know how Winfield behaved in the negotiations, so hard to completely pass judgement.
The only guy of the 3 pass rushers who could command a big salary is EG. He is young and coming into his prime. The other are all at the apex of their respective careers and thus they'll see their pay go down as a result. That is the NFL in this day and age, it is pure business.

I was hoping Williams and Allen would
both restructure and extend. I'm glad Williams did this, but I'm concerned about no extension. I guess we'll see how it plays out. It's going to be weird starting to lose more of our key veteran guys.
