Honestly I think he got a bad break from Childress, he was drafted by Spielman to be a WR and should have stayed one but the KAO genius decided to move him. He certainly has the athleticism to excel at that position but was never given a chance to develop. I think now it's too late and we'll never know.

MBT is very very raw from what I've seen and read. He has a great arm and that's about where it ends. He's a good 3rd string project QB but that's about it, this team needs to find a bonafide QB that can give Ponder some true competition.
So hes like Ponder, but with an arm? JK lol )

Webb was inconsistent clearly, but he also threw a handful of passes that were the most beautiful frozen rope spirals I've seen all season. Not just Vikings season, but all across the NFL.

He clearly possesses an NFL caliber arm. Whether he has the brain and desire is another question. ...One that seems settled for most of you after all three (?) of his starts.

And you are probably right. Odds are that he's not Steve Young. I just don't know why one bad start in cold weather at the home of the likely NFC Champion defines his potential (regardless of other success) in a way that it didn't define the potential of the other guy (well, it did for that week, but he had opportunity to play the next week and revert to the mean a bit).
The bottom line is he hasn't shown the passing ability to make it worth even giving him a shot to be the starter and that's undoubtedly why he hasn't had that shot. He has a great arm and great athletic ability but he's not a good passer and after 3 seasons, he still looks like a major project. His potential isn't defined by one start against Green Bay this January, it's defined by his performances thus far in his career and they add up to this: keep him in the pocket and you win. He can't beat you passing the ball.

Could that change if he was given the kind of time Ponder's being given as a starter? Maybe but that's clearly not going to happen with the Vikings.

Could he be better than Sherels on punt/kick returns?

Hah - I'm not saying he should but Marcus Sherels isn't scaring anyone.

Agreed, but if Webb can't catch a pass, I'm not certain I'll have a lot of confidence he can field punts/kick offs.

He actually got alot better as the season went on. But he got alot worse as a CB. Hes just terrible at that. Once again, they just need to let Webb go.

Thirty-somethings

Eight players now under contract for next season will be 30 or older, including soon-to-turn 30-year-olds Chad Greenway, Brian Robison and Fred Evans. The two oldest players -- cornerback Antoine Winfield and defensive tackle Kevin Williams -- will be 36 and 33, respectively. Winfield is scheduled to make $7.2 million in Year 15, while Williams is due $8 million in his 11th season. And although the Vikings are in the midst of a youth movement, Frazier wants both graybeards back because of their level of play and their leadership. "The intangible in this is a big deal when you're trying to get the locker room the way you want it," Frazier said. "To have star players with the demeanor and the leadership qualities that they both possess helped our football team in 2012. ... That's something that we're going to talk about when we have our personnel meetings with [General Manager] Rick [Spielman]. ... I want them to remain Minnesota Vikings. They are great, great players and great people as well."
Damn, Chad Greenway and Brian Robison are 30 already. Time flies. It makes the linebacking position all the more critical given that Greenway is the only LB on the roster who's worth a damn. Both Allen and Robison will be over 30 and coming off of injuries. Just when you think you're all set at one position...

I count nine. Maybe they're not counting Loeffler.

Antoine Winfield, 36
Kevin Williams, 33
Cullen Loeffler, 32
Chris Kluwe, 31
Jared Allen, 31
Michael Jenkins, 31
Chad Greenway, 30
Brian Robison, 30
Fred Evans, 30

I think Sherels bought himself time with the Punt her returned for a TD against Detroit. Overall he is probably just a role player in the NFL, which means he is upgradeable. I like the idea of Webb returning kicks, but isn't one of the reasons he doesn't play WR his stone hands? That would seem like a big issue for a return specialist.

Detroit was awful on S/T all year and Sherels was lucky to return that punt to the house. Awful missed tackle right away
