All I remember was people crying and b*tching about how we need a real QB not a rb at helm. There's a reason why the back up quarterback is the most popular guy on the team and there's a reason why he is a back up quarterback.
I love Ponder. I think he can be a good QB. But you saying Joe Webb is a bad QB is horrible. Here is joe webbs stat line from 2010 when he played in the regular season:

vs Giants: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/b ... 130min.htm
2-5 8 yards 1 rushing attempt for 16 yards

Not Much you can say about this game. Tjoke sucked it up and he was in for a drive. He did get a first down on his feet which with this crappy o-line can help

vs Bears: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/b ... 200min.htm
15-26 129 yards 2 ints 6 rushing attempts for 38 yards and a rushing TD

The 2 ints killed us in this game. We also played a pretty good Bears team. He came in late for Favre.

vs Eagles: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/b ... 280phi.htm

17-26 196 yards 6 rushes for 31 yards and a TD

After a week of practice he came out and played huge. It wasn't like this was a bad team either that wasn't playing for anything. If eagles won this game they would of been the #2 seed.

vs Lions: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/b ... 020det.htm

20-32 145 yards and a INT. 5 rushes for 35 yards.

We should of won this game but the refs missed a facemask at the goalline. He played decent with only having Harvin to throw to.

and then the last game he was able to play in was in 2011 vs Redskins: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/b ... 240was.htm

4-5 84 yards 2 passing touchdowns 5 rushes for 34 yards and a TD.

He had 5 passes and threw 2 touchdowns and led us to a win that Ponder couldn't win for us

But yea.. Joe Webb is a awful QB because he does bad in the preseason with John who went to Missouri Western and WR and a O-Line that couldn't make the team at DMACC

Sure, why not? Ponder could use a head check right about now and Webb might re-fire up the team and if his ego couldnt handle a benching then good riddance. Ponder needs to settle down a little bit and have fun, Webb might show him how its done and get a win or two in the process. Fat chance but what the hay.

Line up Tebow in the shotgun. Three tight ends. No backs. Snap the ball to Tebow, who wraps both arms around the ball, hunches over, and runs straight into a pile of bodies in middle of the line. Second down and nine.

Ooh, aah.
I said sort of, as in a quarterback who comes in a few times a game and uses him in trick plays and stuff. An athletic player who is exiting to watch and can make some big plays. So when I said they should him like the jets use tebow, that's what I meant

Trickle in some wildcat. And not just to run. Get some trickery, reverses, something.

NO NO NO NO !!!!

Ponder is progessing as a player. He needs a more support at WR and
better OL play overall.

benching him would set him back a lot, maybe destroy him as a leader.

I'm 26. Daunte Culpepper wasn't a project. He was a gifted physical specimen with a cannon arm and tank legs. Tarkenton is black and white footage trivia at this point and do we really want to compare Frazier to Bud Grant? Tommy Kramer quit playing before I started preschool.

From what I saw of Webb in the preseason, I'd think that they'd have a better chance of winning if they can trade back for T-Jack.

There are bigger problems with this team right now than at the quarterback position, but the lazy analysis of the commentators and talking heads on ESPN trick you into thinking it's purely a quarterback problem.

We may need to accept that the Vikings defense still has some big holes in it, and teams have figured them out. I'm not totally pumped about their linebacking corps outside of Greenway, for example. Chris Cook was inconsistent, but at least had potential...until he went down. Josh Robinson has amazing speed, but whether or not he's ready to be solid as a rookie is still a question. One of their safety positions is a hole. I'm not totally high on Letroy Guion.

There are also about 2 spots on the offensive line that need work. Their tight ends might be able to catch a lot of passes, but losing Sauce's blocking is very apparent. Their receiver corps outside of Percy and Simpson (while we can use the guy like the Panthers used Steve Smith, they really need Simpson to step it up in a huge way) is thin and they need to coat their hands in hot wax every night or something. Anything to keep them from dropping passes.

And of course, Ponder has reacted to situations on the field in not exactly the best way each time. Sometimes in a really bad way, sometimes in a way that gives you a little hope.

Ponder is the sort of quarterback that you kind of need to put a lot of good players around. He's like Jake Plummer, Delhomme, Chris Chandler. One of those types. All of them found success provided they had plenty of competence around them. When they didn't have that, they fell out completely.

Franchise quarterbacks are the most expensive thing a team is going to have. If you have a guy sitting on the bench, and he hasn't obviously outplayed your starter in any preseason game or practice, there's a good chance that he's not a franchise quarterback that you have magically gotten for cheap. The ideal situation is to be able to find one for cheap enough that you can build around him. Most teams that don't make the playoffs come in two forms: Good quarterback, bad team...and good team, bad quarterback. It's awfully tough for about 14-16 teams every year to figure out a way to bridge that gap. Right now, I'd feel a whole lot better if the Vikings began scouting and stockpiling names of quarterbacks they could target. They probably are and keeping it on the down-low. Young quarterbacks are the biggest roll of the dice a team can invest in.

And the truth is, most fans of most teams would think Vikings fans are being big idiots about the whole thing. Most teams take their unquestionably franchise quarterback within the top 7 picks. Ponder was 11th. There are a lot of mid-first round to second round quarterbacks that don't work out. That's because teams target their franchise QB earlier in the draft because it's actually cheaper to pay big bucks to a top 3 first round pick rather than pay even more for a free agent franchise quarterback (provided a team even makes one available on the free market). For this season, Ponder is your guy unless Webb can prove without a shadow of a doubt that he can start and play better. He has to PROVE that. He hasn't done that yet, and the coaches would definitely be starting the guy in order to save their own jobs if he DID prove that.

I'm willing to give Webb a shot... maybe not next game, but if Ponder continues to suck, why not?

He may not be a prototypical NFL QB, but at least Webb doesn't play chicken like Ponder does.

How is he pregressing? His last 3 games have been his worst games he has played. He was better in his rookie year.

They have a long week until they face Seattle, then a home game against a team they've beaten (Detroit). The key sign is improvement. If he shows some improvement over the next two games then there's hope. If both of them are sub 100 yard game then it really is time to bring in Webb and get him ready for Chicago.

Two difficult, but eminently winnable, games await. Let's watch young Ponder founder before the calls for young Webb take heed. Go Vikes!

No - He wasn't. Compare his passer rating for the two years. (at least so far). He has regressed over his last few games, but his overall performance is still better....

I think we should trade all of our picks to get the entire 6th round of draft picks next year. Then we'll draft all QBs with those picks/ We'll then spend the next 2-3 years starting them until we find the next Tom Brady.
