Okay now I get it. Mcnabb, back in the day was a Pro-Bowl QB but you are right he did throw a lot of balls into the turf at the end of his career. I have watched Weber all preseason, including tonights game against the 49ers and I have got to say he looked very impressive this preseason. Elway has had a whole lot of good things to say about him.

I'll be happy if they cut Chris Carr. They may (or may not) need veteran leadership on the team, but I'd rather see them start Josh Robinson and keep one of the younger cornerbacks with some upside, like Reggie Jones. Carr will not be involved with the future of this team, even if he does stick through the season.

No argument here. Carr has not showed much to be happy about. I think the Vikes will be picking up some players from other teams after the last cuts. The 49ers have a wealth of wide receivers for instance. And there might be some corners out there that far exceed Carr's capabilities (not saying much lol).

Keeping and developing Robinson over retaining Carr makes sense to me. Who knows? Robinson may already be the better player between the two DBs.

Patriots claimed WR Kerry Taylor off waivers from the Vikings.

Gafney and Stallworth cut by the Patriots. Hmmm Might be worth looking at.

I suspect they’ll keep Carr because Winfield is 35 and Cook has yet to give them a full season. I agree he hasn’t shown much, but you have to think after the past 2 years of injuries in the secondary they’ll want to keep some insurance on the roster.

If they were to cut Jenkins then maybe Gaffney would make sense.
Stallworth is probably done though. He's hung around on the bottom of peoples depth charts past few years.
And yet both are better then anything we have, except PH. We will see hwo Simpson is after his times is up for selling dope, but I dont think he was that good in Cinci. Just cause we are rebulding doesnt mean we have to keep young unproven players. Winning a game or 2, giving Ponder an older WR target, isnt a bad thing. Spielman is stupid for not already signing Plaxico Burress. Like Devin is still going to be here in a few years. He shouldnt be on the team now.

Gaffney might be and he's worth a look but I don't know about Stallworth. He hasn't been very productive over the past 3 seasons.

Apparently, every other GM in the NFL has seen just as much reason not to sign Burress. Actually, there are some pretty good reasons he's still on the market. He has a troubled history, he's 35 (or about to turn 35, I forget) and if I'm not mistaken, if he's on a week 1 roster, his salary for the season will be guaranteed. Aging, potentially risky veterans like Burress and Owens might have a better chance to find a place on a team once the season begins.

Considering how productive Plax was w/ SANCHEZ throwing him the ball last year...really hard to believe he isn't on a squad.

I hadn't realized it until just now, but the Vikings have already cut down to seven WRs, including Jerome Simpson. They may only make one more cut on Friday. Or maybe even no more cuts, considering that Jarius Wright would be among the wide receivers left for week one during Simpson's suspension. If they cut anyone else, they'd be left with only four WRs that they'd actually consider throwing the ball to.

I just read something on that very subject a minute ago:
http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/Note ... 082812?t=2
Coach Leslie Frazier on Tuesday said it's "more than likely" the Vikings will keep five receivers on the 53-man roster in addition to starting split end Jerome Simpson, who won't count against the limit during his three-game suspension to start the season.
That leaves three spots for some combination of Devin Aromashodu, Stephen Burton, Emmanuel Arceneaux and rookie Jarius Wright, with only Wright's spot seemingly secure because he's a fourth-round draft pick.
"All of us would love to see one of those guys make some big plays for us down the field or beat man coverage," Frazier said. "Houston plays a lot of man coverage. That would be good to see, if we can find someone who can show that they can separate and win some one-on-ones, and maybe between those four that are playing, we'll find that."
It looks like Harvin, Jenkins and Wright will all make the opening day roster which may leave two WR spots open, although one of them will probably disappear once Simpson returns.

He's definitely a risk but I don't think there are many other teams in as bad a position as the Vikings with respect to receivers. Maybe he doesn't want to play for a non-contender or wants too much money, that's the type of stuff we don't know but
if he's willing to come on at the vet minimum or slightly higher, he's worth the risk, IMO.
He doesn't fit with the rebuild mold, but right now we have a #1 receiver that while explosive and incredibly talented, hasn't been on the field 40% of the time. The only other promising receiver will be playing right bench for 3 games. Our starting TE is only in this 2nd year and the other is coming off an injury. Then you add in the revamped O-line....
Even if Plaxico (or Gafney) isn't a long-term solution, I'd rather see them out there giving Ponder some sort of weapon rather than watching him get wrecked waiting for Aromashodu or Jenkins to get open. To me, it's not about this year's receiving corp, it's about seeing if Ponder can progress but to do so I think he needs at least one more serviceable skill player. I think giving up a roster spot in this case is worthwhile even if it means one of the more youthful players gets cut.

I'm inclined to agree, although I'd rather see Gaffney than Burress. Gaffney probably has more left in the tank and I think he'd be more productive outside of the red zone.
