That's just f***ing sad. That's all there is to it.
I have to agree. Sorry, Dan, but most single people DO enjoy the night life, unless they have kids. Even if you make huge wages, even if you make average wages, even if you don't make much. If you have money, though, most people tend to spend it at night clubs or restaurants. If those people don't, you tend to enjoy our national and state parks more often, with beers at 3am (and that can get you in trouble with the cops at many parks, too).
This example is from a different league, of course, but Tony Parker got glass in his eye and couldn't play in the Olympics for France because he was out at the clubs hanging out with famous hip-hop artists. Tony Parker isn't a guy you immediately think is a party animal. You'd be surprised how many people go out late at night...I'd say about 60% of the software developers I've worked with over the course of my career (spanning many companies as I did a lot of my contracts on a fairly short term basis because I liked basically starting and finishing major projects) would go out after work and hit night clubs. These are SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS we're talking about here. Sometimes, they would bring the BUSINESS ANALYSTS or QUALITY ASSURANCE people along. These are not what most would think are "party animals", but it's not about partying most of the time. Most of the time, you're sitting at a table with friends talking over drinks or trying to be seen. Or just people watching. It's not like these clubs are crack houses or brothels. There's a guy who pours drinks, there's a guy who dj's, there are guys who check cards at doors, there are people taking drinks to tables. Maybe some people dancing. It's not as crazy as some people seem to imagine. It's not all Studio 54.
Here's the real problem with this case: The cop didn't like Adrian Peterson questioning his "authoritah" by going back in for a glass of water. This isn't a serious crime. It's not even as serious as Randy Moss's infamous "left turn", which could have caused someone that decided to throw themselves at a moving vehicle in a very zealous attempt to do their job to get hurt.
That said, if he was as drunk as they said he was, they probably should have let him have a glass of water. Probably as sensible a move as any to get that stuff out of his system. Getting caught up on that seems silly. I've seen plenty of people play at being "scary" at night clubs. It doesn't mean anything until they throw a punch. I've been a bouncer, it's a part of the job. You see it every night from drunks. Alcohol does that and there's a reason that most night clubs hire bouncers that can hold their own against a whole lot of people. I wasn't that type, of course, I mostly got good at reasoning with drunks and getting them calmed down. But I worked with one or two guys who were ex-college offensive linemen and could probably have made even Adrian Peterson back down. It's a different matter when there aren't any pads, and 60 pounds/5 inches of reach to throw around in an enclosed area is a big difference.
