Re: No more Pro Bowl?
the pro bowl is horrible. worse than the nhl, nba, or mlb all star games. the super bowl should go to hawaii once in awhile imo.

Re: No more Pro Bowl?
I won't blame Goodell if he pulls the plug on the pro bowl. He gave the players a chance to save the game with a serious effort, but it didn't look to me like many players cared. I was most disappointed in the AFC. Manning even gave them a pep talk about taking it serious and they seem to quit by the end of the 1st quarter. At least the NFC looked like they kept trying until the score was ridiculous. Individual players seemed to take it more seriously, but not enough to warrant the continuation of this clown show IMO. Plus it's hard to tell the fans that you want to take this game more serious when allow Jeff Saturday to take a snap for the AFC. What if Marvin Harrison was on the NFC team, would they have let him catch 1 final pass from Manning too?
I too would rather see some sort of skills competition in it's place. To spice it up they could have side competitions to see which RB is the best passer, or which lineman is the best receiver, or even which defender is the best kicker.

I wouldn't mind the players don't want to go once they have been in the league a while
why should the fans care about it..

Re: No more Pro Bowl?
I like idea of having it be the first preseason game. The players will be well rested and might give a little more effort, it gives the returning vets a couple quarters to shake off the rust, and it will provide a little hype before the season. A probowl is definitely workable, but before the SB isn't.
Re: No more Pro Bowl?
Before the SuperBowl was a terrible idea but I don't think it would work as a first preseason game, you would see way more people dropping out. It's just too close to the regular season for injuries. You sprain an ankle in the ProBowl and you're fine for next year but you do that in the 1st preseason game and it puts you in jeopardy of starting the season. Not to mention coaches would already be well into installing their gameplans by then making it a bad time for a player to take time away from the team.joe h wrote:I like idea of having it be the first preseason game. Significant drop RT: @richarddeitsch: The Pro Bowl averaged 9.9 million viewers on NBC (down from 12.5 million last year).

It's a matter of perspective. Despite the lousy Pro Bowl last year and the annual blitz of negative press that accompanies the game, NBC still had the highest ratings of any network on Sunday night.PurpleMustReign wrote: Yikes. that's pretty low...
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013 ... able-nightIn Nielsen's metered-market overnights, the game earned a 7.7 household rating/12 share from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. ET, down a smidge from last year (7.9/12).
As a comparison, last year's World Series averaged 7.6/12 compared to this Pro Bowl's 7.7/12 share. That's the power of the NFL at work!

Re: No more Pro Bowl?
I know I wouldn't shed a tear or lose any sleep if the NFL Pro Bowl went away. The players don't really take it seriously anyway. Being named to the squad is an honor, no doubt, but who cares about the game?

Re: No more Pro Bowl?
No one really cares about the outcome of the game, but....
What if the Pro Bowl went back to being played a week after the Super Bowl. The winner (AFC or NFC) of the game would secure home field advantage for the following year's Super Bowl. Everyone would play hard because most teams think they have a shot at the SB before the season starts, and so they would be playing to help secure HFA for their team. Probably never happen, but just a thought....

I've told people a million times not to exaggerate!
Re: No more Pro Bowl?
I thought home team for the Super Bowl just alternated NFC/AFC every year. And what does being home team at the Super Bowl buy you beside picking your jersey colors?
Re: No more Pro Bowl?
Bah, it's a stupid idea in baseball and as Eli points out, it doesn't even matter in the SB.Just Me wrote:What if the Pro Bowl went back to being played a week after the Super Bowl. I disagree, I like how they do it in Baseball. They take it more seriously that way. I wouldn't mind seeing them inplement it in hockey and basketball either.

It's easier to take the game more seriously in baseball because it isn't a contact sport.PurpleMustReign wrote:
