Re: Twins
Losing by 1 to a team with four times the pay roll is bad enough...losing the games on walk off home runs to admitted steroid users takes the cake. Disgusting.
(So they aren't on roids now...they'd be making half as much on some other team if they hadn't done them in the first place...)

Re: Twins
So, here it is:
Gardenhire, while compiling a very good record, is 3-23 in Yankee Stadium (new or old), and I would shudder to find out his record against the rest of the AL East, especially on the road. I believe they only won 2 games against the AL East on the road last season (one each against BAL and TB). That is unacceptable. We have the talent to compete with these teams, and there is no reason that we shouldn't be running away with the division now. Getting swept in NY, three times on walkoff, is just putrid, I don't care if Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, and Bernie Williams are on the team.
And what is with Perkins waiting until he gave up 6 runs to say anything about his shoulder? Great way to lift the team, man, good move...
At least they finally called up someone to hopefully help the bullpen. I hope they get rid of some more of their dead weight (Breslow, Crain).
They finally have an offense that can produce, but now they don't have the pitching to back it up.

Sound familiar? The Vikings have a world beater defense, but an offense that can't get the ball down the field one year, then the next, they have an offense that scores tons, but the defense can't stop anyone?

Re: Twins
Twins call up Swarzak; Breslow claimed off waivers by Oakland

By La Velle
Lefthander Craig Breslow has been claimed off waivers by Oakland and the club has called up righthander Anthony Swarzak to replace him on the roster. Swarzak is expected to start on Saturday against the Brewers.
He was 3-4 with a 2.25 ERA in seven starts at Class AAA Rochester. In 44 innings, he’s given up 40 hits and walked 11 while striking out 32. His WHIP is 1.16. Opponents are hitting .248 off of him. He’s turned his career around after serving a 50-game suspension in 2007 for violating baseball’s drug policy
Joe C. will be at U.S. Cellular Field soon and should have more details.
The Breslow move is a little surprising. He’s hasn’t been effective - he was 1-2 with a 6.28 ERA in 17 games - but I thought the Twins would give him more time to turn things around after pitching pretty well last season. But the Twins needed a roster spot and had three lefties in the bullpen. Someone had to go.
The Twins currently have 39 players listed on their 40-man roster.
In other news, Twins pitching coach Rick Anderson, speaking on Wednesday during his twice-monthly spot on KFAN, said the club got good news on lefthander Glen Perkins. There’s nothing seriously wrong with his elbow, so he’s expected to be ready to step into the rotation when at the end of his 15-day DL stint.
Class A Fort Myers outfielder Ben Revere, by the way, was named Florida State League player of the week after batting .625.
I'm surprised that they let Breslow go. I would have thought (hoped) Ayala would have been the one they got rid of. But at least they are acknowledging the problems in th bullpen.

Re: Twins
And now, the White Sox are rumored to be trying to trade for Jake Peavy!!!
Wow. Our chances at the division are rapidly deteriorating. The other teams in the division are making great efforts to improve, while we hang on to guys like Ayala and Nice Punto.

Wow, then they pull something like the whooping they doing in Chicago right now. Guess their bats got pissed off. I hope this turns things around, but I won't hold my breath on it.

Haha, wow 20-1. You don't see that too often. Just hope they didn't blow their wad and stink it up offensively for the next stretch of games.
Mauer has been incredible since coming back. He's hit 8 HR since the start of the month.

He is unreal. IF, and it is a huge if, he can stay healthy for his entire career, he could break some pretty special records. It shocks me how he doesn't have cold streaks like every other player in the majors. I don't think he has ever gone hitless in two straight games..

Re: Twins
Twins have no plans to move Liriano
Why? Why? Why?? He is too good for the Minors, but at least put him in the bullpen for awhile. Heck, maybe his career would be better off as a long left handed reliever. Anthony Swarzak should get to pitch out of the rotation at least until he falters, and in more than one game. He has shut down his opponents, and if it weren't for Jason Veritek he'd be 2-0 with a microscopic ERA.
It will be interesting to see how the Twins lineup does without Punto. As good as his defense is, his bat pretty much doesn't exist, although so far Casilla isn't much of an improvement. I also wish they'd send Young down to the minors. He doesn't even look like his head is in the game anymore. I don't know ehy Gardenhire can't see that.
They should be running away with the divisioon right now, but because of Young, Gomez, Punto, Liriano, and Baker they are way behind. I was hooping they would send the Dome out with a bang, but it doesn't look like that is gonna happen.

Re: Twins
Well, if they can win today, they will have gone 6-4 on their 10 game road trip. Pretty good for a team that coldn't win on the road a few weeks ago. I hope this means they are turning things around. We iwll see. I do like calling up Moreles. I wish they would send down Crain or Young or something instead of Swarzak, but I know he will be back.

Re: Twins
It is time to get rid of Young, Henn, and probably Crede. I would trade them all plus Perkins to Seattle for Adrian Beltre. Let Dickey start. Baker, Liriano, Slowey, Blackburn, and Dickey is a pretty good rotation, and with Beltre in the lineup, that would really protect Mauer and Morneau. All these home runs are finally hitting, and they are all solos.

Re: Twins
I don't agree about getting rid of Perkins, but ya I agree with letting Dickey start. I think the guy has earned it with how solid he's been, plus he would do a better job than some of our starters. Hate to say it, but I would get rid of Liriano before Perkins. I'm not sure Liriano will ever get back to where he was.

Re: Twins
We really need to get rid of Cuddyer. He strikes out either looking or swinging on a horrible pitch every single game. Put Kubel in Left, Span in right, and Gomez in center. Young can be the backup OF. Morales can DH.
Is it really that difficult to beat the Yankees?
