Didn't they just re-sign Loeffler?

Yeah but for very little. Just bringing in competitionPurpleMustReign wrote:Didn't they just re-sign Loeffler?
Because it's frustrating how important a backup is...until you trade one, and then it doesn't matter. Shaun friggin' Hill is good enough.DK Sweets wrote:Demi, you son of a gun, you started this debate again...
Forget about how important the #2 QB is, I just found out having a healthy Peterson is just as good as a limping one.Demi wrote: Because it's frustrating how important a backup is...until you trade one, and then it doesn't matter. Shaun friggin' Hill is good enough.![]()
At least be consistent, that's all I ask...
Percy is an unstoppable super weapon, and isn't injury prone...until we trade him.
We have the best depth at QB in the league, which is important. Three deep at QB, best #3 in the league with Ponder (!HA). Now we have Hill and...Mike Kafka, and forget the tune changing, the entire arrangement changes. Not only is it not that important, but Shaun Hill isn't that big of a downgrade from Cassel.
He's not... because Cassel isn't very good in the first place.Demi wrote: Because it's frustrating how important a backup is...until you trade one, and then it doesn't matter. Shaun friggin' Hill is good enough.![]()

When we have an established starter who's a threat to lead this team to a division title on a yearly basis, and have the luxury to draft prospects to back him up and develop that other teams might have wanted for starting jobs....then I'll be ready to spilt hairs and debate skills sets.

This team, as is, has yet to win anything with it's starter. The two guys being debated about are in their twilight. It's moot.
I'm hoping TB lights it up this year and we draft a serious prospect next offseason who can develop and play backup for the length of his rookie contract.....rinse and repeat until TB hangs it up in 15years and 2-3 lombardis later~

This is exactly how it will play out as Rick and I have hashed it out with flow charts and everything. All that's left to do is sign one more long snapper.

What are you guys really complaining about?? You act like there are diamonds in the rough that we are missing out on. How many "better" backups are there than Shaun Hill?? Look at teams backups right now....if they are "any good" then they would probably be starting or starting out of desperation like Cassel in Buffalo. Is there really THAT much of a difference between Shaun Hill and Mark Sanchez? Matt Flynn? Tarvaris Jackson? Drew Stanton? Chad Henne? Charlie Whitehurst? I mean my goodness!!! They are backups for a reason!!! Because they really aren't that good. If we signed anyone else's backups, you would still be here crying over not having a "good enough" backup.Demi wrote: Because it's frustrating how important a backup is...until you trade one, and then it doesn't matter. I agree there is no difference between the two. But at the same time, what team hasn't been burned for it?? Unless you find some miracle like Brady or Warner, it hardly ever happens. And please don't say Arizona because they had the best record in football before Palmer went down so they had a lot of wiggle room with backup QBs in therePurpleKoolaid wrote:When #7 was our QB, I really had high hopes with Cassel. Even thought maybe he would play like he did in NE, and for a while, at KC. I find myself thinking, theres no way Hill is better. But they really are almost identical. I happen to like Cassel's leadership and personality, when it comes to being a QB, and I dont see that in Hill. That's about it though.
I dont think the Vikings spend enough time on their backup QB's. We have been burned before because of it. But im not sure how much worse off we are having Teddy and Hill, as some teams are with their #1 and #2. As far as Kafta, I just hope he doesnt become like MBT was here, basically a waste. Or Booty. I hope he can learn from both teddy and Hill.
