Our best bet right now IMO is go for a MLB in free agency. We have 2 good young LBs in Barr and Hodges and chances are, Chad is gone which means we will have next to nothing, money wise, invested into our LBs. We need a veteran guy in the middle that is solid against the run. I'm starting to really lean towards Brandon Spikes. That dude is great run defender and fits Zims defense very well. Another guy to consider would be Mason Foster as well. We are missing that big time run stuffing LB right now. Spikes and Foster are those guys. If we go for that in the draft, then it's Perryman hands down.

The ILB/MLB free agency pool is really weak. The draft isn't much better. I think it would be smart for Minnesota to resign Jasper Brinkley, but also look to try to upgrade the MLB spot. Never hurts to have two capable players at a position.

Agreed and I suspect the Vikes will feel the same way. I think Brinkley will be back with the team in 2015.

Unfortunately, I think Jasper will be back too. I think he is one of the least talented LBs on the team, I just cant believe the younger ones cant beat him out of the spot.

Like PHP said, Spikes or Foster would shore up the MLB right away. I would love for the Vikes to target either. Perryman is interesting, but that's a high pick.

I don't see it as being that weak. Spikes, Foster, Irving, Maualuga would all be great fits in Zimmers scheme.

Agree. There are better linebackers on the roster, that would be cheaper, and bring more to the game. Time to move on from Brinkley...and hopefully Greenway too, but doubt it...

I feel the same about Greenway, but we would have not vets for LBs without him.

Worth reading;

Vikings have enough needs to be very flexible at No. 11

It's Strib writer Mark Craig's take on the Vikings draft needs based on the current roster.

I can't argue with that assessment, in fact I could not agree more.

Wouuld Spielman trade UP for anyone (Cooper, for example)? I know as much about the draft as I do life on Neptune, and I just wonder if anyone is worth trading up for.

Given Spielman's tendency to have more than the standard seven draft picks, I doubt we will trade up. However, if there was one player to trade up for in this draft - it would be Amari Cooper. Cooper is going to be the next great NFL wide receiver.

The Vikings cannot really afford to giving away picks right now. It would be great to have Cooper, but at what value? If we cannot stop anyone from scoring, especially within the division, what good will it do to have the nice WR?
Let's start with the defense first.

I think the Vikings will not go after a WR in this draft if they sign Duron Carter. I'm not saying Carter is as good as Cooper, but I do think that the WR needs might be overstated. I think CB or trading down for a LG and MLB are more likely.

I never said we should trade up for Cooper. I was just saying that Cooper is the only player worth trading up for in this draft.

I would actually be in favor of us trading down from pick 11. There just really isn't anyone who wows me at 11 that we couldn't get at say, pick 16.

I don't really see what the big deal about duron carter is..... did the vikings not already cut him once, also I have read/heard from multiple sources that he has a terrible attitude and is a cancer to teams he has been on.
Imo we need to get Parker from Louisville, especially after his showing at his bowl game with a backup quarterback that never played.
