Kirk Cousins could be available for a 2nd round pick.

At that price I'd have to say "no thanks".

Lol. Krik Cousins is not worth a second round pick. Let some other dumb team trade for him.

Ditto. He might be decent, but he's a backup. That's why the Skins drafted him in the 4th.

This guy sums up reality for us pretty well.......

Here's all you need to know about the crop of free agent quarterbacks this offseason: four of the seven, as ranked by Yahoo, have been employed at one time by the Vikings (Cassel, Josh Freeman, Shaun Hill and Tarvaris Jackson). The top two are Michael Vick and Josh McCown. Vick figures to aim for one more good-sized contract as he will turn 34 before the season starts. McCown, too, will be a hot commodity after putting up big numbers with the Bears.

Cassel is next. Then it's Freeman. No, really. Then it's Hill. Then Chad Henne. Then T-Jack.

That's what's out there. The perfect fit, honestly, is Cassel. He is fairly accurate when it comes to downfield passing, which figures to be in play more now with Norv Turner as the offensive coordinator. He has the capability of starting and holding down the fort while the Vikings presumably groom a QB of the future, but he didn't show the ego in 2013 that would make him a problem if he was beaten out for the job.

It comes down to this: For many reasons, the Vikings simply cannot go into 2014 with Christian Ponder in the mix, and for now he's the only QB on the roster. They need a capable stop-gap who would give a rookie head coach an easier transition while also putting less pressure on the team to draft a QB in the first round (since a pick in a later round might figure to be a little more of a project).

Cassel is the guy. When free agency starts March 11, we'll find out if he opted out of his deal so he could simply get more money here or if the battle scars of 2013 combined with a nice offer somewhere else will leave Minnesota in a bind.

No matter how he acquires him the next QB is Spielman's last chance because if he misses on another one he's out.

Me, personally? I'd trade the Seattle pick in the 3rd for him if he can be had for it.
If we are going to 'waste' a 3rd on a QB, id rather give it to NE for Mallet, who hasn't even thrown a ball yet. Much more upside to him then Cousins has shown, which is basically no better then Ponder.

WHy WHY WHY would anybody give up a 2nd round pick to Washington for a QB they drafted two years ago in the 4th Round???

That's the million dollar question. When a guy with a stronger arm, waiting to be molded, picked in the 3rd rd could probably get traded for a 3rd and a little something.

I personally see nothing in Cousins to take a chance on. I like the Mallet idea. Maybe even a few sleepers like Mettemberger that needs time to heal. I want NOTHING to do with Murray though. Not even in the 5th.

Because sometimes guys increase their value. I'm not saying this is the case for Cousins (especially since our 2nd is a high 2nd) but you look at guys like Wilson and Foles and they'd easily get way more if they were traded than where they were drafted.

"People who don’t have one are always swinging to get one, and sometimes you go through two or three or four before you finally get one," he said. "If you’re lucky to get one on the first go-around, you’re great. Indy, here, they had Peyton Manning they took one, and then they got Andrew Luck because they were one again. That’s pretty good because they don’t have to worry about that position. But you’re hoping like I said to be aggressive at that spot to hit on one. If you’re sitting there not being aggressive, then how are you going to hit on one?"

Thanks for the link. I liked his comments about QBs throwing (or not throwing) at the combine.

Spielman talks like a scout and drafts like an excited teenager.

Eh... that makes a nice one-liner and Spielman definitely seems excited and enthusiastic about his job but I think he drafts like a GM who has scouted the players, has a plan and knows who he wants to select. I don't see much of the "excited teenager" and what that phrase implies in his approach to the draft.

Lets say a guy like Carr falls further than expected, mid-20s, I can see Spielman making another trade similar to what he did with Smith and Patterson.

We'll see soon enough. Much of that interview about being aggressive sounds like an excuse in advance for reaching for a QB.

What exactly is he trying to say about throwing at the combine? He encourages all QBs to throw, then he goes on to say how bad everyone thought Roethlisberger looked. Huh?

Blah blah blah. More pablum from Slick Rick.
