Vick was ineffective with Antonio Brown, Martavius Bryant, Leveon Bell. Not much else needs to be said.Jordysghost wrote: I disagree, I think Vick still has one or two good seasons left in him, I also think a broken down Vick running on empty would still be better then Shaun Hill.
Hill has been ineffective his entire career.PurpleHalo wrote: Vick was ineffective with Antonio Brown, Martavius Bryant, Leveon Bell. Not much else needs to be said.
He threw 8 TDs in 9 games for the Rams last time he started. Not much different than what Teddy put up last year at that point for us. He just needs to limit turnovers.Jordysghost wrote:

One has nothing to do with the other. I never said Hill was any good.Jordysghost wrote: Hill has been ineffective his entire career.
I never thought about a new blind side, very interesting angle. I still say no, he was good like one year in Philly in 2011. The rest of his career he was inaccurate, and lacking touch.beerfan wrote:It's tough to look past the fact that Vick was not very good last year with plenty of talent around him but Id probably be willing to take a chance that playing more games indoors helps him look a little better. All 3 games he started last year were outdoors. Plus since he's a lefty he will be able to see all the guys that Kalil isn't blocking and run away from them
You know who needs to hear that? Speilman!Mothman wrote: I actually disagree. They could probably bring in a QB and get him up to speed by mid-season, if not sooner. He might not have a comprehensive knowledge of the system by then but he'd probably be able to run enough of the offense.
If the Vikes are going to make a move, unless they can get a good QB with experience running the system, I think they should make a move for a young guy with possible starting potential (like McCarron or possibly Aaron Murray, who might be easily affordable or perhaps even hit the open market soon). A young player like that (along with Heineke, if they believe he has sufficient potential) could learn the system this year and potentially compete next year.
As far as I'm concerned, the Vikings need to re-think their approach to this position. They need young competition for Bridgewater next year. If that competition isn't on the roster they need to draft someone to fill that role. They need to stop thinking the Cassels and Hills of the league are adequate backups and start developing more depth and a real "Plan B" at the position. Furthermore, they need to face the fact that Bridgewater may not be their future at QB. I know many don't want to hear that but this was an important season for him to demonstrate, unequivocally, that he could actually become the franchise QB they (and many fans) seem to believe he is already. Now he's losing a year of development, and a year of his contract, to an injury serious enough that it's unclear if he'll be able to even pick up where he left off next season. Hopefully, he'll make a full recovery and be ready to go next summer but even if he does, he'll be in the final year of his contract with yet more to prove.
This Vikings team has spent too many years putting all of their eggs in one basket at the QB position. They need to move forward as if their future at the position is uncertain, not as if this is just a year they have to get through and then their franchise QB will be back in place and all will be well. They need to do that because the future of the position remains uncertain.
Sorry, I know nobody wants to hear most of that but that's the harsh reality of the situation. Whether we thought the Vikings had a legitimate franchise QB or not, they don't clearly have one now.
Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman delivered a firm message Thursday night to the media and his counterparts around the league about how far he’s willing to go, or not, for quarterback help after Teddy Bridgewater’s season-ending injury.
“The one thing that I will not do, and I promise you this, is put our organization in a situation where it’s going to inhibit us or hurt us going into the future,” Spielman told reporters before the Vikings’ preseason finale against the Los Angeles Rams.
“By that, I mean people are asking for some crazy things. People think that you are desperate, and we are not going to do something that in my estimation, and talking with Coach Zim (Mike Zimmer) and our ownership, that puts us in a situation where we jeopardize the future of this franchise.”
Specifically, Spielman said: “We’re not giving up any of these young, talented players that we have, I can tell you that right now. Us, we work too hard as our coaches and our scouts, to build this thing and to go out and draft guys and develop guys to just give them away for a guy that may come in here and only be here for seven months.”
The Vikings must have a more impressive roster of talented young quarterbacks with good upside than I think. I sure hope so.
