Zimmer hasn't dropped the hammer on Norv because Norv's convinced him that Patterson is a liability and that it's all Patterson's fault for not training with Irvin and perhaps one or two other minor instances (due to Patterson's simpleness, happy go lucky, light hearted attitude he "appears" to not be taking things seriously enough) and Norv has built his case on those things thus Patterson is in the dog house.
It's an absolute shame that his career has gone this way. When we run on 68% of first downs and there's 9 guys in the box loaded up for AD getting the ball to Patterson out in space even on a short pass would be deadly. Let's not forget that when patterson struggled, he was dealing with an injury and AD was suspended so defenses could key in on him. When he and AD have played together though he's had his best games. All he needs is a tiny sliver of day light (which is why he's such a good kick returner) and playing with AD creates a lot of space for him.
But like I said, that is just a guess and I don't like Norv so I'd love to put the blame on him. This guy is just something else, he says #### like "Charles Johnson is the best WR on the team" and helps him disappear into an inactive role. When he first signed here he says "Can't wait to put 15 Patterson specific plays in!" and then puts zero Patterson plays in and helps him disappear too. I guess both of these guys just forgot how to play over night... Nah... my guess is it's more political than anything else, Norv simply found some "illogical" excuse to phase them out.
Very well said. I think yours and Boon's points are on target. Of course, that's probably because I agree.
Autobon7 summed up the rest of my feelings on the matter, so I won't elaborate. I'll just say what I always do: get the playmakers on the field!

An awesome recipe for success. Hire the old ball coach and let 'em play!

Heres an interesting question. Josh Gordon has applied for reinstatement. Norv Turner had huge success with him in Cleveland, but Gordon's off field troubles are well documented.
I'm not advocating anything, I'm just asking the question, would you rather have Cordarelle Patterson or Josh Gordon? The player who has all the talent and can't put it together on the field, or the player who has all the talent and can't get it together off the field?

I would not be against Bringing him in and letting Zimmer work on him this off season. I feel that if anyone can judge his character its Zimmer.

The old ball coach was able to coax 9 TDs out of him during his rookie campaign. 2 of them were returns. We sure could have used those other 7 this year. He had 2 catches this year. Targeted twice. Additionally he had 2 rush attempts this year.

Yeah, the ol ball coach knows how it works. Bring in a guy who scores 7 TDs and that'll be 7 more TDs than you just had. Bang. 'rithmatic's what we call that!

Totally obvious to everyone that it does not work like that.....I think my sarcasm was lost a little. However, my point was that we had a previously proven weapon riding the pines and last years "best receiver" inactive for a large portion of the season (and hurt earlier). All the while we settled for FGs instead of TDs.

We will prolly never learn the details that some of us are trying to understand but does tend to drive me (us/some of us) crazy.

like i posted earlier, patterson wasn't m.i.a. in 2014. he got plenty of opportunities as a wr and rb. his targets were around ten less and he has two less rushing attempts than his rookie year. i also don't buy your theory that norv has somehow corrupted zimmer's mind. zimmer is there at practice and has been around patterson for two years now. is it possible that zimmer on his own just doesn't like patterson as a wr either? i don't get the impression that zimmer just turns his back to the offense like buddy ryan did and let's turner do whatever he wants with the offense.

I would not go that route......I don't think Zim would take a chance on Gordon corrupting his locker room. Too many young impressionable players. We all heard on numerous occasions all year about how Zim commented on the character of the team. I vote NO.

I haven't read anything about Gordon having an attitude problem. He's simply made some unfortunate decisions. Given that neither seem to be bad "locker room guys" I'd prefer the guy that has shown he's one of the most dangerous receiving threats in the league. Of course, Norv might just decide to randomly sit him one day then make him inactive.

josh gordon got a little high. Im no pro marijiwannna advocate, but he seems to be getting pretty harsh punishment for minor infractions.
Ive never heard anything about being a locker room cancer.
Would love to see him on the vikings.
He already is what Patterson could be.

He allegedly got so high that he fell asleep sitting in a hotbox in a taco bell drive in when he was in college...so a 'little' high might be an understatement.

lol, true.
I may or may not have been in a similar situation as a passenger, so i pass no judgement lol.
Honestly Id trade Patterson for Gordon straight up. Dont know if thats a "no duh" statement or not.
One is on the verge of being a bust with all the physical attributes one could want, and the other is a proven asset that has minor off-field issues, that have cost him in a big way.

Probably the worst thing about this whole Patterson situation is the missed opportunity for Norv's offensive scheme to be redubbed Air Cordarrelle.
