Teddy Bridgewater's starting offensive line in Year 2:Matt Kalil, Brandon Fusco, Joe Berger, Mike Harris, T.J. Clemmings.
‏@eric_j_thompson Joe Berger should be a serviceable backup with Sullivan out, but if ANYONE on the O-line misses ANY time, the team's completely screwed.
@nacholeber This Sully news is the worst. AP can't get impatient in run game and expect 3 step. Game changing loss. #Vikings

This is a pretty huge loss, but I mentioned yesterday before the news broke that if Sully were to miss some time, at least we have a quality replacement in Berger. I still feel confident in Kalil/Fusco/Berger, so Teddy's blindside should be fairly safe. Adrian looks to be hurt the most by this, and obviously depth is now a major concern. Still, all-in-all I feel like as a team they've made it to opening night as healthy as you can expect an NFL team to make it, and we have a chance to get better at this weak spot as the season moves on (Sully comes back, and with Berger available we can shake up the right side if we absolutely need to).

This is definitely depressing news, but I still have a lot of faith in this squad.

They need to make another trade. That is a scary situation.

You know, they must have known he had a herniation, long before today...they just made the decision to do surgery today. Why the FCK have they not dropped some bucks on acquiring a quality OL replacement before this?? Moreover, it is VERY unlikely that Sully will ever be back to his normal baseline after this.....back surgeries tend to help a bit, NOT cure any thing. This sucks....Our OL is now officially worse then last year and last year wasnt good enough.

@christomasson Mike Zimmer said Sullivan got hurt on field.
@Andrew_Krammer Zimmer: Sullivan "was doing better, was running" said treated it conservatively. "Was running 7mph on treadmill" but didn't get better.
@christomasson Mike Zimmer thought early this week he wouldn't have Sullivan for this week but was hoping it wouldn't be long term.
‏@mattvensel Zimmer said they don't have a specific timeline in mind, but is optimistic that he will be back for the second half of the season.
@christomasson Mike Zimmer says he has "no concern" about offensive line.
--- lol. Right. Just like there was "no concern" with Sullivan prior to the surgery. Oh, and "no concern" with Blair Walsh. Coaches...always publicly eternal optimists.
‏@Andrew_Krammer Zimmer: "Berger has played a long time," they have confidence in him. Said they thought of moving him to RG before Sullivan's injury
-- The pessimist in me says that if they were considering that move in the last two weeks they must not have thought Harris was their best option there.

I actually believe that the concern in Walsh is somewhat limited from Zimmer (just because I don't feel like he's the type to mince his words, especially for a kicker) but you're right. The O-Line IS concerning, and this doesn't give me a lot of confidence in Harris.

So, Sullivan had a hyperextension back injury it appears (possibly hyper flexion, but it doesn't appear that way). That prompted the initial diagnosis of 'back spasms' (AKA, Erector Spinae strain). However, it appears that the sports medicine team realized Sullivan wasn't recovering the way he was supposed from an acute strain (or they knew the initial diagnosis all along - highly doubtful) and underwent further evaluation on him. This prompted this lumbar disorder. The surgery will remove a small part of Sullivan's lumbar vertebrae to facilitate healing.

Anyway, the Vikings' situation is going from bad to worse. This it what happens though when a team neglects the offensive line. Yeah, having a bunch of low-round picks and undrafted FAs sounds good from a developmental stand-point, but when #### like this happens, the team looks very, very, very stupid.

Spielman better do something and do it fast. We cannot simply go into the season with our current depth at offensive line. Teddy will not stand a chance.

I'm not sure if I've said this before, but you're one of my favorite posters, Hardcore. Your analysis of injuries adds an incredible amount of insight and it's greatly appreciated.
