They franchised Bryant, so no Murray was not franchised.IrishViking wrote: Just spit balling here but Dallas did NOT tag their running back correct?
Or they trow players into the deal to help free up cap space.saint33 wrote: They franchised Bryant, so no Murray was not franchised.
The problem with connecting the dots with the Cowboys is that they have very little cap space available, which is one of the reasons that Murray will hit the market in the first place. With approximations for the rookie class, and Bryant's franchise number taken into account, the Cowboys have about 6 million in cap space (as a comparison, the Vikings have about 21 mil projected free cap). Even if you take out the salaries of the draft picks they give up, and potentially altering the cap number of Bryant if he signs long term, they would likely have to make significant cuts in order to absorb Peterson's contract. Unless of course he was willing to take a very significant pay cut to go to Dallas, which seems unlikely.
http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nf ... /23522207/Also underspending — as of Feb. 9, when the NFLPA calculated the numbers — were: the Carolina Panthers (80.8%), New York Jets (81.16%), Jacksonville Jaguars (82.2%), Dallas Cowboys (82.6%), New England (82.7%), New Orleans Saints (86.2%), Washington Redskins (87%), New York Giants (87.9%) and Pittsburgh Steelers (88.3%).
Cowboys have like $5 million in cap space. They would need to cut some people to make it happen.Norv Zimmer wrote:Didn't the nfl just raise the salary cap by 10 million? A.p. will play for the cowboys for less than he was making in Minny. As for Demarco murray, he will chose where he wants to go.... for some reason Idon't think it will be minnesota. More like arizona indy or seattle (if Lynch retires.)
And yet they need to spend a significant amount MORE money this year to get over the cap floor.Raptorman wrote: Cowboys have like $5 million in cap space. They would need to cut some people to make it happen.
Don't know how that is possible. They have been within $5 million of the cap limit the last 3 years and over one year. Only in 2011 they were $30 million under.fiestavike wrote: And yet they need to spend a significant amount MORE money this year to get over the cap floor.
The cap hit is different than the amount spent. The new CBA requires teams to spend a certain amount of actual dollars, as opposed to just a certain amount of cap space. they have a lot of dead money on contracts and so even though they are in cap trouble, they actually have to spend a lot more dollars this year. (the saints are in a similar situation). I believe that in reality it probably means that they aren't in cap trouble at all, because they can simply re-work deals to save cap space and spend more actual dollars. I think there is no reason at all they couldn't find room for Peterson if they want him.Raptorman wrote: Don't know how that is possible. While the Dallas Cowboys have been reported to be a Peterson favorite destination, the running back prefers five teams: the Arizona Cardinals, the Indianapolis Colts, the Cowboys, the San Diego Chargers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Cowboys don’t necessarily have to top every other team’s offer if they want to keep soon-to-be free agent running back DeMarco Murray.
In fact, as long as the Cowboys come close to what other teams are offering, Murray will stay in Dallas, according to Ed Werder of ESPN.
In other words, Murray is willing to give the Cowboys a hometown discount. But it would only be a small hometown discount: If some other team is offering significantly more money, Murray will jump. If other teams’ offers are only a little more than the Cowboys’ offer, that’s when Murray would decide to stay in Dallas.
If they are going to trade him, I hope he gets traded to an AFC team.fiestavike wrote:http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--a ... 55914.html
I hate how everyone is saying how screwed the Vikings are, yet the Vikings are in total control for this whole situation. If we trade him, we better trade him to an AFC team and get something good in return. If not, we keep him. No way we cut him.VikingLord wrote:If I'm Spielman, I make it clear what it will cost both another team and AD in order to make a deal. I really don't see why the Vikes would cut the guy outright, because if he holds out, I'd have to assume the Vikings could simply start clawing back any money they pay him. I've said it before and I'll say it again - AD doesn't get out of his contract just because he wants out - he's going to have to at least restructure his contract before I could see any other team, including Dallas, willing to give up anything in trade for him. Spielman has to get the sort of compensation one should get for a star player, even if that player comes with a ton of baggage, plays a position of marginalized importance, and is getting a bit long in the tooth. I'd take the deal the Vikings got for Harvin and nothing less than that.
