I know it wasn't an inspiring performance but it wasn't
that bad. They had 22 first downs and over 100 yards rushing. They just struggled to finish drives and score points (which, of course, is not good).

Three of the five sacks on Ponder came in 3.3 seconds or more. Those are on him. Rookie LT Matt Kalil had a hand in the other two. #Vikings
Phil Loadholt, who has had a solid preseason, got beat on a counter move to contribute to one sack too. #Vikings

I'm not saying those three sacks weren't on Ponder but I recall at least one of them where Allen and Bercich said he had nowhere to throw it. I'd love to know what was happening elsewhere on the field. Just saying 3.3 seconds elapsed so it's on the QB seems too simple.
I might have to spring for that new NFL.com service that allows you to watch some coach's film of regular season games. It would be great to see what's happening all over the field on plays like the aforementioned sacks.

He doesn't have any separation skills any more and is only use in the red zone. I'd rather trade a mid-rounder (5th?) for a younger guy, say James Jones. Won't happen though.
Rice didn't have great separation skills either. Plaxico can get up and get the ball and as you mention is huge in the redzone. The guy is out of a job and would come cheap, an upgrade in my mind over whatever 5th WR they decide to keep.
He's not the only option, just one that comes off the top of my head. I'd have to think there's better options out there. Maybe as the cuts begin to start coming down.

There's always somewhere to throw it to, if no one is open, you throw it away. A QB needs to develop an internal clock and after 3+ seconds he needs to understand he's likely going to get hit soon and make a decision. Making a play in that situation may not be all on him if no one is open but holding the ball and eating a sack is.
Jim, I've also been considering the rewind package, mostly because I live in a condo so satellite is not an option. Why DirecTV doesn't offer a standalone internet option is beyond me, I'd gladly pay for it. Anyway I'm rambling, it looks like you can get 1 team for $35 with "select" coaches film. It looks like you'd have to pay the premium $70 service for the full amount of film. I'm thinking the 1 team service is enough for me.

Good point. There's usually somewhere a QB can throw the ball, even if it's just high and OOB.

I'm considering the 1 team service too, although I notice that doesn't include playoff games. Of course, that's not likely to be a problem for us Vikes fans this season...
I see that there's only a $5 difference right now between getting one team with select plays and all teams with select plays.
Does anybody know if you can watch games full-screen (on a computer) using the NFL Rewind package? I assume so but it would be a bummer if you couldn't only watch the games at a small size.

A guy on twitter was allowing people to use his preseason account for a while so I got a peek at the layout. I forgot to check for a full screen option but the stock window that opened was already fairly large (maybe 75% of the screen) and the quality was very good. I would imagine full screen shouldn't be a problem. There's also a slider to change the quality if you have bandwidth issues.
I'm not too worried about playoffs as in the unlikely event the Vikings do make the playoffs, those are guaranteed to be nationally televised.

It would just mean we wouldn't have access to the coaches film for the playoff games.
Thanks for the info about the size of the picture! I have a feeling the Vikes won't be on TV here too often this season so I may have to subscribe to Rewind to get my Vikes fix.

I'm on the international version. All games. Full screen. You need about 600 Kb per second d/l to get the best resolution. The condensed game - just plays, game finishes in 30 minutes - is sweet to catch up on games you missed. I also come home late often, and can watch the game from the beginning even though it started an hour before. I don't have to wait until it's over.

I just received an email from DirecTV and it seems they will be offering NFL Ticket over the internet
without having to buy/install their dish service. Previously, the only option was if you had a PlayStation but it looks like this is now an option for those who can't install dishes where they're located. We'll see come Sept 1st but just another (albeit much more expensive) option and one that I'm going to jump all over if it's true.
Thank you for writing about getting NFL SUNDAY TICKET. I understand that installation of a dish is not allowed at your place.
Based on what you told be, I would suggest that you subscribe to our NFL SUNDAY TICKET Online. This product is intended to offer NFL SUNDAY TICKET games only to customers who can not get DIRECTV service at their current address. The price this year is $250 (1 pay) and it will be available for ordering on September 1,2012. To order, simply go to
www.directv.com/sundayticketspecial and pay by credit card.

Thanks, John. I knew you had been using the international version so I was hoping you'd see my question.

I'd love to but that's still too expensive for me. Nevertheless, it's nice to know it's an option!

I am fairly certain that every NFL play-off game is nationally televised. So you should be able to watch all of the play-off games on regular cable tv.

Yes. $250 for the NFL Sunday Ticket online is double what I'm paying for the out-of-the-USA version. I'd have trouble paying $15 per week (technically, the hardest sell would be my wife: "yes honey, $250 and I am going to ignore you for half of every Sunday"), but at $7, it's like buying a movie ticket. And my popcorn is essentially free.
