LOL!
How much fun would that be for a local kid? "Hey Mom, can I go outside and play football with Vikings WR Jerome Simpson?"
Maybe not so much fun for his mom, and Simpsons past...

For reals. Roll your eyes all you want. I wouldn't want my impressionable 14 YO hanging out w/ him. To each their own.

Adrian Peterson - RB - Vikings
ESPN 1500's Tom Pelissero is predicting 5-10 carries for Adrian Peterson (knee) versus the Jaguars, "unless something goes wrong."
Well connected, Pelissero is among the most reliable beat writers in the country. His prediction gibes with coach Leslie Frazier's statements that Peterson will see limited snaps after sitting out the preseason.

It's curious because Sid is adamant Peterson won't play at all. Of course, anything said by Sid these days has to be taken with a stadium full of salt. Hopefully he gets a few touches, positive yards and emerges healthy and confident for a greater workload in following weeks.

No bubble.... There's a difference between knowing he/she has been around people who have, and encouraging it.
Anyway... That's the last I'll say on this here. It's derailed this thread enough.

I think it's bizarre that at a point in his rehab where the team won't allow anyone to take Peterson to the ground in practice, they'd put him into a regular season game to take his first hits.

I'll admit that I hope AD rips off an 80 yard TD in his first touch, just to put an exclamation mark on his comeback, but I'll certainly settle for the much more realistic and modest scenario that you depict.

If they decide to play him on Sunday, I wouldn't be surprised if they at least opened him up to hits below the waist in practice tomorrow. However, simulating full speed game hits in practice won't make them any less dangerous so maybe it makes no difference.
At this point, Pelissero's just making an educated guess anyway.
We'll find out on Sunday.

No pressure.
@TomPelissero: Toby Gerhart tells me Zygi Wilf's message today was, in part, that Sunday is the most important opener in his 8 years as #Vikings owner.

• Special teams coordinator Mike Priefer said the plan is for Percy Harvin to get all the kickoff returns Sunday, although Frazier certainly hasn't said that's the plan. Priefer added that Sherels will be the primary punt return man and will be the backup on kickoff returns.
• With Jerome Simpson suspended by the NFL for the first three games of the season, Michael Jenkins will get the start opposite Harvin at wide receiver against the Jaguars.

Adrian Peterson - RB - Vikings
Vikings coach Leslie Frazier says Adrian Peterson (knee) didn't experience any unusual soreness or swelling after carrying the ball 17 times in Sunday's win.
"So far, so good," Frazier said at his Monday presser. Frazier also claimed the Vikings are going to remain "somewhat cautious" with Peterson's workload, but if AP could tote the ball 17 times in his first live action since shredding his knee, it's not hard to envision a 20-carry afternoon against the Colts in Week 2. Peterson's injury comeback is the most remarkable in recent memory.

Gotta say, kinda makes all the beat writers speculating before the first game of the season look pretty silly. And makes Frazier and Co. look pretty smart for playing Peterson's status and rehab close to the chest. Rather like the fact they were able to execute a little misdirection with the media.

No more strict Cover-2?
The Vikings defense has often been referred to as a Cover 2 system. But they didn’t rely exclusively on Cover 2 against the Jaguars and will always lean toward mixing things up when they have the personnel to do so.
“In reality, even when people have described as a [Cover] 2 team, when we have had the personnel that will allow us to be a little bit more than 2, when we were playing our best defense, we were not a heavy Cover 2 team,” Frazier said. “And our personnel is getting back to where we need it to be. The last couple of years, we’ve struggled on the back end from a personnel standpoint. But we’re getting to where we need to be so we can mix it up a little bit more and not be as predictable as we had become.”
And on the Shorts TD:
Frazier also took a stab at explaining what went wrong on the 39-yard Blaine Gabbert to Cecil Shorts touchdown pass with 20 seconds left in regulation Sunday, a blow that put the Vikings behind 23-20. Chris Cook was left alone in one-on-one coverage against Shorts with no safety help.
“We were in a three-deep coverage,” Frazier said. “And what you want to be able to do in three deep, you never want to let anyone get behind you. That’s what you’re always preaching in three deep. And we probably could have done some things to help Chris in that situation that we could have done a little bit different or a little bit better. But the ultimate goal in three deep is not to let anyone ever get behind you. That’s the premise of the coverage.”
Bottom line: the internal explanation of that malfunction is that Cook erred first in letting Shorts get behind him and then in twisting the wrong way as Gabbert’s throw arrived.

Vikings had everyone on the practice field today. No one sitting out as they begin prep for the Colts.
