How many games did they win last year?

And? How many did the Vikings win 2 years ago? Where did they end up last year?
That offense is deadly with Reggie and that defense is very physical and the only glaring weakness is their corners.

Physical?
Like Ndomukong Suh's dirty chop block on John Sullivan? That kind of physical?

I don't think the Lions were that good. We really could have blown them out and had the opportunity countless of times but whats the use if your offense cant capitalize off turnovers?

If we had Alex Smith or Carson Palmer or any other guys in the league we could have gotten for peanuts, we would have won by 10.
Anything approximating serviceable QB play with how disastrous the Lions were for the first 20 odd minutes of that game and much of the remainder
and we would have won. Hell, just a guy who could stay on the field and manufacture some drives so our D wasn't out there for 40 minutes would
have done the trick. Hell, Geno Smith or E.J. Manuel might have gotten us their today.

Come on, the Vikings did not have a chance to blow the Lions out. In fact, it was the Lions who were in a position to blow out the Vikings. Had they not made absolutely stupid penalties, and if Calvin Johnson holds on to that TD pass, they would have been running away with it. Their record last season does not matter, as they have added a fine young rookie in Ansah and finally have a running game that is a threat with Reggie Bush. The Lions have the potential to win a pile of games if they don't keep shooting themselves in the foot. However, they ARE the Lions...

That's why this game was so messed up. If it weren't for the incompetent coaching/penalties for the lions, they would have beat us by 20.
If it wasn't for our incompetent OC/QB, we could have won by 20.
So, that much inability on both sides provided a closer game than usually necessary.

Exactly how I see it. Nice post, Brian.

BGM your post is spot on. Our offense was certainly not great today, but our defense was utterly horrible. The TOP stats tell the story, we couldn't get them off the field. Where was our pass rush? I know KWill is probably a future HOF candidate, but I can't believe that without him the likes of Jared Allen just flat our dissappear against the likes of Reilly Rieff. Hopefully this game was a well deserved wake up call.

Isn't that what they're known for though? The lions have had quite a bit of talent for a few years now, but their coach isn't good IMO. They SHOULD be better disciplined, but haven't been for a couple years now.

Robo was invisible. Allen wasn't horrible, he batted a few passes down and had the sack. And some pressure. But we are in big trouble if that's the best our line can do. Cause Smith and Robinson cant make all the big plays. Our LBs were so much worse then even in preseason.

Game 1 notes:
Jerome Simpson proved that he can play when healthy.
AP is a beast
Both lines leave a lot to be desired. In the d-line's defense they were out there too many times and too quickly.
My patience is wearing thin on Ponder. I wonder if he sees open receivers and knows he can't make THAT throw and hesitates. He was constantly throwing behind receivers. Very annoying to say the least. Ponder was throwing like he was holding in a fart.
Detroit will win more than 4 games this year with a healthy Reggie Bush

No, he doesn't see the open receivers. I swear on my life, AD was so wide open 2 time, within 10 yards of Ponder and I mean WIDE open, my dog could have thrown him the ball. But BoyBlunder didn't even see him there. AD, the MVP of last year...

I saw that as well. Not like he had a lot of time to throw the ball most of the time either. Seems like the only receiver that Ponder could see was Simpson. He had to make more than a couple spectacular catches to get what he got.
