So the Wilfs build a stadium by themselves, then the state and local community have no right to use it the other 350 or so days a years unless they pay to use it.

Very true. Or the Wilfs could rent it out for other events.

If I am recalling this correctly, was not both TCF Bank Stadium and Target Field publicly taxed as well? I guess I just want to know why there is more opposition toward the Vikings stadium?

IMO, it wouldnt have mattered who got the stadium first, the latter would have been opposed. It just so happens the Vikings are the last one, and taxpayers are sick of flipping the bill for millionaires. It would have helped if they were 10yrs apart too, just happen to be bunched together. JM2C.

To switch it up a little bit....... I've been researching other stadiums in the NFL. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cu ... e_stadiums First, There are a lot of stadiums that have a small capacity, but can be reconfigured to allow for more people. For instance, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University ... ix_Stadium The University of Phoenix seats 63,400 but can expand to 78,600. How is this possible? next question is, of all these stadiums, which is your favorite? I'm torn between a few. Lucas, U. of Phoenix. Of the newer venues, I'd say Ford Field is the least of my favorite, although the use of an old warehouse for the box seating is pretty cool. Something else I came across that was kind of cool is the roof they put on the BC place in Vancouver. It is one of a few similar, but smaller, siblings of the Metrodome. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BC_Place and a great video of the transformation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2ctjyeJH8k and another of the roof opening. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDZlQCuX ... re=related

The Metrodome was under budget and ahead of schedule. It has been a big time money maker for the state and everybody uses it.
It is old though. It honest to God fell apart last season.

They will kill a goose laying golden eggs to save pennies. Losing the Vikings and using a crumbling facility would be a disaster.

No, according to some that money will be spent somewhere else. Not sure were the money from those that come from out of state to watch the Vikings play will be spent, but I'm sure it won't be in MN. Granted, I don't know how much money that is. But I am sure the hotels know.

Again, no city that has lost an NFL franchise in the last 50 years has ever just said "OK", and not tried to get one back. And it always cost more to get one back than what it would have cost to keep the first one.

Uh-oh. RT @PatKessler: Dayton, GOP agree: Vikes stadium w/o tax hike referendum won't pass legislature. Rmsy Cty deal in jeopardy? #vikings
RamseyCo Commiss Tony Bennett says sales tax announcement keeps Arden Hills in the mix. Bennett says the announcement means state must find new funding source other than taxes. #vikings plan 4 pm news conference at the Capitol. Veep Bagley will speak. Is widely believed no sales tax increase would win voter approval for #vikings stad. No #vikings stad sales tax referendum could get on ballot until 2012.
Voter referendum for new taxes fails no matter the site, right? And referendum wouldn't happen until Nov. 2012. Lease expires Feb. 2012.
And the price just went up at least $50 million. RT @espn_nfcnblog: referendum wouldn't happen until Nov. 2012. Lease expires Feb. 2012.
To be clear, the referendum requirement would apply to either Ramsey County or Minneapolis sales tax proposals for Vikings stadium. #vikings
If referendum threat is serious, #Vikings will be franchise free agents on February 1, 2012. State can't stop them from relocating.

So where were these legislators when Target Field passed without a referendum? Too busy to "take a stand for the people" then?

Good question. I'm sure glad Minnesota took care of the Twins and Gophers first instead of the most popular sports team in the state.

Short-sighted $#@#@* politicians will $#@# this thing up yet. What a nightmare...

To avoid referendum, #Vikings need to find a new, non-tax source for the $350M they expected to get from Ramsey County sales tax increase.

It's not that they aren't wanted. Plenty of people want them. It's just that there are too many selfish, short-sighted people who can't see beyond the short term costs to the long-term benefits. :(

almost laughable how short-sighted the people there are. i feel for you guys living in minnesota. when this team leaves you'll be kicking yourself for years. especially in about 5-7 when they bring in another expansion team because they finally understand that these teams bring in money.....and you guys have to pay higher taxes for a crap team you don't care about. :wallbang:
