After having none every season before that, and at least one of his INTs was the result of a tipped ball that just happened to fall into his hands. In fact, IIRC, he had like one game where he picked 3 balls, none of which was what one would call a great interception, but more poor throws or good luck leading to the picks.

Just watch Teo move on video and it becomes fairly obvious this guy is not going to be a great pass defender. That doesn't mean he won't be a good or even great MLB in the pros because he seems to be pretty good at flowing with the play, shedding blocks, and taking good angles, but I would not expect him to thrive as a pass defender in the NFL.

I think the most questionable part is the fact that he had none, no interceptions, prior to last season. That is pretty strange..
He reportedly went into his senior season with the goal of becoming a better pass defender so maybe it's just indicative of hard work and his ability to learn and improve his game. There's often some "right place, right time" luck involved in getting interceptions but even in those cases, making the play still counts for something.

I think maybe having it happen once or twice is luck. Doing it seven times means you're putting yourself in a position to make interceptions.

It wouldn't surprise me but if true, I don't see that as a strike or anything. That's when a lot of NFL INTs occur too.

Believe what you will, but nobody is going to be afraid to throw near Teo in the pros.

I don't think there's any LB that a QB is afraid to throw at in the pros

Tyler Thigpen and Brad Smith might hesitate throwing against Audie Cole

Manti Te'o - LB - Player

ESPN's Adam Schefter stated on SportsCenter Tuesday that Notre Dame ILB Manti Te'o remains a likely first-round pick.

"Most people around the league don't believe he will get out of the first round of the draft," Schefter stated. "And I think you start about midway through the first round with teams that have needs at the inside linebacker position." Schefter mentioned the Vikings at Nos. 23 and 25. Minnesota is sending club officials to Te'o's Tuesday Pro Day. "It's hard to imagine, ultimately, that he gets out of the first round, in the opinion of various people around the league," Schefter said.

Manti Te'o - LB - Player

According to ESPN's Todd McShay, Notre Dame ILB Manti Te'o ran forty times of 4.71 and 4.75 at the Irish Pro Day Tuesday.

He also repped 225 pounds 21 times on the bench.

Thanks for the info. Those numbers probably won't change his position much on NFL draft boards but kudos to Te'o for improving on his combine 40 time. I suspect teams that liked him will still like him and those who didn't won't change their minds.

I agree with Schefter that Te'o remains a likely first round pick. At least 3 teams with a need at MLB are going to get a crack at him in the latter half of the first round and I'll be surprised if one of them doesn't pull the trigger. If he makes it to R2, I doubt he lasts long.
