Haven't seen this posted here yet..

But the new stadium design unveil is coming soon on May 13th at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... ed-may-13/

Released clues to the design so far-
  • 1) The stadium facade could be made up of a combination of metal panels, Kasota limestone and curtain walls that appear transparent or translucent when lit.
    2) The stadium’s roof, which will be nearly 100 feet taller than the Metrodome’s highest point (195 feet), could be permanent or retractable, and include a combination of hard deck and fabric, which would allow sunlight into the building much like the Beijing Water Cube made famous in the 2008 Olympics
    3) 65,500-seat stadium, which can seat as many as 73,000 fans for special events such as a Super Bowl
    4) it will be nearly twice the size of the Metrodome, encompassing up to 1.7 million square feet
    5) all the options for a retractable roof and retractable walls or windows also “are still in play.”

How is square footage of a football stadium measured? That can't be the footprint, can it?

They've already said that it will have a sloping roof and facade made up partly of limestone. Those elements alone would make it very different from that design. The resemblance would be in the use of translucent panels, which could mean a lot of things.

I assume that would be the floor area. So decks stacked on top of one another would result in multiples to the actual footprint.

square foot is the total ....ground space....the decks stacked on top of each other would be cubic feet.

Not as it is measured in traditional commercial real estate. When you hear about a 70,000sqft office building, that is typically the floor area. Again, I assume this is the number they are quoting on the new stadium as 1.7 million square feet is 40 acres and the entire site is only 20 acres.

Cubic feet is simply the volume of the building. The previous explanation sounds correct, as I don't see how the footprint could possibly double in size.

You would be correct. What they are measuring is all he rooms, hallways and floors. Any place you can put something on the floor basically. For example, if you have a two story house with a basement that is 40x60 you have three floors totaling 7,200 square feet, but the footprint is only 2,400 square feet. Cubic feet would be the volume of the building. From floor to ceiling.

No, they say it might be translucent like that. That's the Water Cube, the swimming stadium from the Beijing Olympics 5 years ago. Nothing in the article says it'll look like that.

Not bad, but it still has those goofy shadows. I don't like those. But this looks ok.
